Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I was on here. Does anyone know where to get a decent mattress from? Or somewhere where you can get a mattress with disability help?
Hi everyone,

Sorry Babe, I don't know, but whatever you do, do NOT go to Dreams, we ordered a bed from them for my son and it came 6 weeks later than it should have with several cancelled delivery dates (with no notification and no returned calls.). They also charge for delivery if you order in store but not for online.
Would some of the sites for different disabilities have information?
Sorry I can't help more, good luck.

Hi Suffolklass, thank you so much for your reply. I'll make a note of that information so I'll remember not to use them. I did go to a local mobility shop in our local indoor market and they have given me some information. I know that the mattresses can be expensive so it's something I really need to think about and make sure that I get the right one. Thanks again for your reply, gentle hugs xxxx
I can recommend using non sprung mattresses (no springs). I've had my waterlattex mattress for about 12 years and it's been excellent. Both my children have latex mattresses too. They are so much more comfortable and a great deal less expensive than Tempur.

Hi I actually bought 2 beds from Dreams and all was fine..We got a buy one get one free so to speak because they were both half price x.Our annex was not finished on time so they kept it till I needed it which was 3 months later x No extra charge. The bed was a bed that lifts your head or feet or both. The only problem we had was within the year the mattress was too weak I now have a memory foam topper. I did have a feather one but could not move in bed as it was too soft!
Hope you get some help ...remember to ask how to claim the VAT back as you do not need to pay it if you are disabled.
hugs Rainbow x x
Hi babe, I have had a tampur mattress for roughly 10 yrs now it's great got mine off line, if you have a disability no, u get th vat knocked off, but go to the shops first and ask to try out a tempur mattress they all sell them, it's a memory foam mattress, made by tempur apparently it's the stuff that astronoughts use hope you manage to get sorted gent hugs ...Dee x
The best bed I ever had was a waterbed, most people think of the old ones in comedy program's but this was called a soft sided waterbed. It is made with base of a usual divan bed, the mattress part on top has usual type construction for around 6 - 8" around the 4 edges, then a build up of foams in middle, & waterbed part on top. Having Fibro, Arthritis, Burstitus my knees, shoulders and hips are always sore when trying to sleep, with the waterbed there was no pressure on any of these points, so no extra pain, relaxed when just lying in bed too. Sadly when I decided I wanted a divorce my ex took the bed out if spite. I know it may be an expensive option so not practical just wanted fellow sufferers to know how much the bed helped.
Really hope you are able to find what you need. I'm
Not sure what areas they cover but here in the Midlands we have company called Benson for Beds, they have what they call a comfort station, with tester mattresses set out rated 1 to 5 I think you try out the testers then look around the store for beds with that number which is a great idea.
Hi Ksmiles, thank you so much for your reply. My husband and I are just looking at the Benson for Bed's website, I'd forgotten about that. I've always been a bit unsure about water beds, but the one you spoke about sounded great. Thank you again for your reply, gentle hugs xx
Beds and mattresses can make such a difference good or bad to the pain we have. Trying to get comfy enough to sleep means as little pain and sore spots as possible. I in the past had one of the cheaper memory foam mattresses because I spend a lot of time in bed becos it's the best place to keep warm & less pain than sitting my mattress just ended up with a dip where my hips were etc i guess it depends on the money you have to spend etc hope you find one that suits your needs, I would have my waterbed back in a heartbeat if I could afford to buy one, no worries about bed bugs either lol xx
Hi, saw your message about mattresses. I got one in the sale a couple of years ago. It was the John Lewis christmas sale. Don't know what your budget is, but I saved about £250.00 on mine. It has thousands of the old fashioned springs in it. But on top of those it has a very nice thick layer of memory foam. It is very comfortable !! If you want to know anything else about it, just let me know. I also find a combination of memory foam pillows and feather pillows very comfortable. Also, my feather duvet is very soft on the body, and lovely and light. Hsve a good day xx
Hi, I bought a memory foam mattress from Amazon, king size around £360.00 it's lovely feel like you're sleeping on Cotten wool. The Tempur ones are way too expensive but the one I bought from Amazon is fantastic.
Hi
Try Mattressman.co.uk I got one of the Silentnight ones with the two layers of springs with a latex layer on top. Its very comfy and I get a good sleep. And the delivery was in 4 days (I live in the north of Scotland) compared to the 3 weeks of some companies
Why dont you go round the shops and try the mattresses out and then order online. I would say to watch out with the depth of the mattress. The one I got was 34 inch so a normal fitted sheet wouldn't fit.
Good luck
Hi Emintrude, thank you so much for your reply. I've never heard of mattressman so will look at that for sure. I think the plan is to go around the shops and try and work out what is right for us. Thank you again for your reply. Gentle hugs xx
No bother. They actually show you what they have in their warehouse ready to deliver. And they were the cheapest from all the places I checked. And the fact they delivered in 4 days was a bonus - Ive ordered from companies that said they have the item in stock and its taken weeks to deliver cause of some silly rules they have. Good luck x
Hi, we bought a memory foam mattress from beds4us a few weeks ago and it's brilliant! really supportive which helps my pain and if I get up which I do a few times at night, it doesn't move so my husband isn't disturbed and you don't feel each other turn over in bed. Bedd4us messed us around a bit so wouldn't recommend them that highly but a good memory foam mattress from anywhere is better than springs for pain conditions. I've even slept through the night a couple of times! Good luck x
Hi haven't been on here for ages. I myself was given a mattress from my Ot 20 yrs ago they also renew it when it gets worn. I went to them because of my fibromyalgia and spasms throughout the night an stiffness which rendered me hardly able to move when I wanted to get out of bed on a morning. The occupational therapist comes to your home and its not just mattresses but whatever you need to make your life easier.I just wonder if this is better as they are fully trained to assess your needs. You can ask your gp for this.I have never paid for a mattress as my special one sits on top of any mattress I have. Within weeks my problems eased and I was more comfortable. Good luck xx
