Good evening everyone, iam thinking of buying a new mattress and I want one that is going to be comfortable and not make my fibro pains worse? Was thinking of a memory foam one but there are so many different ones, can anyone recommend a decent one for fibro? Many thanks :)

Hi there, we recently bought a orthopaedic mattress strength (1) from dreams. It is fantastic. It is firm, but it does give a lot of support and helps with back issues. I know that everyone's preference is different. We looked at memory foam, but we were told to bear in mind that if you get hot at night and move in your sleep, these are not always suitable for some. Ours is pocket sprung and is a very supportive mattress. Hope that helps.

Hi, have a look at the dreams website. Pocket sprung start at £206 upwards. They give a 40 night try and if you are not happy they change it. Hope you get on with your search ok.

They make them with a cooling gel now which is very effective for me.

Also you can buy a body sized cooling pad. Would I buy another gel

type of mattress? Nope..our bed is almost 4 months old and already

the spots where I lay and my husband does are clearly defined..so

if we move closer to each other or further apart, we have to roll

up a little incline and that isn't very comfortable..I am guessing it will

last us 4 yrs tops..We paid 1600 for the mattress and we are using

our old box spring. =) One that I did like better was Serta Perfect

Sleeper..bought it at Sams club..Held up perfect for 6 yrs. I think

that the recommendation is to change out the set every 5 years

and some are 7 years. (I weigh 111 lbs- give or take a few so why

that indentation??Gotta wonder for someone whose close to 170 lbs.

I have just bought the Tempur Cloud. I got it cheaper since it's an ex display model. It is amazing! Never felt so comfortable at night and I sleep way better now. I run hot and expected to have trouble but I honestly don't. It is quite a soft mattress but has enough support that it works. At least for me. I tried my parents bed and my brothers new mattress and found them both too hard and it made me hurt more. I cannot recommend it enough.<3

That's interesting ladytelita, I came very close to buying one of the cloud ones, but was worried it may be too soft, so I am very interested to hear what you have said, thank you :-)

:) I know what you mean. We've spent so many years being told that a soft mattress is unsupportive and will make things worse....it's all lies! I've avoided beds with springs for years. My last mattress was a waterlatex from Relaxsan and it was a good mattress, but since the fibro kicked in (and the mattress got old) it was getting uncomfortable and I wasn't sleeping. Lol, being that I'm typing this at 5.57am I realise the irony, but that's due to yet another IC flare. *sigh*

I was also concerned with buying a tempur, because I had slept in my parents bed years ago on their topper. I couldn't sleep! But then they have an orthopedic underneath it so the combo made it much firmer. I did try the mattress in a store, as well as the other types they do. But this one was a bargain. I wouldn't exchange it for anything now, it's lovely.

Hi, I bought a Memory Foam before they were popular back in 2005, coz it was recommended for fibro. Absolutely love it, as it contours to your body and you don't have to turn it over at all. Back then they were hot, but I got a cool Max cover to help And it helps protect the mattress. NOWADAYS though apparently they have resolved this hot/heat prob by putting a cool Max topper or something like it on top. Check with supplier. I wouldn't change my mattress for the world. Good luck. I have two mattresses, one in our house in Dubai is a memory foam and although we are in Dubai when we use it, and in the autum/winter/spring we rarely use the a/c unit, the mattress definitely does not make us hot; I think they have better covers these days so over-heating isn't an issue. It has a memory foam over a sprung base all in one mattress. The other is in our house in UK and I bought it from Back in Action, its called mirror foam and although it is expensive if you have fibro you can get it without VAT because it is considered to be medical equipment. It has a summer and winter cover for it, so if you leave the summer cover on, it stays cool all year; you won't get overheated. You can use it for two months and return it and get your money back if you don't sleep well on it. It is very firm, you need a little time to get used to it. and in truth if I had to choose I prefer the memory foam in Dubai.

I've just been through this for my teenage son who has been seriously ill for the past 5 years with M.E. Last year I bought him an expensive no turn memory foam mattress, had to wait ages before he could use it because of the smells, he has Sensory Processing Disorder which the M.E. has heightened. He has a single bed and a year later, the mattress has sagged in the middle and on the edge where he climbs into bed. I've taken lots of advice and am now waiting delivery on a small double bed with a 2000 pocket sprung turnable mattress. which the manufacturer's guarantee for 5 years.. If money isn't an issue look at Dorsoo beds and mattresses. Good luck!Jackie.

Forgot to mention PedicSolutions topper from QVC (if you want to soften the mattress). My son also has a weighted blanket when pain is extremely severe. Jackie
