It seems that since I have Fibro and been on some really strong medication over the years, including steriod injections, my teeth are crumbling.

Teeth breaking!!! is anyone having this issue?
YES I HAVE LOST TEETH THEY ARE LOOSE . I NEED DENTURES BUT AM TO SCARED TO GO AND GET THEM X
I've had my back teeth break for a few years now - For me it's down to stress and tension associated with the pain of Fibro causing me to grind my teeth in my sleep - I used to be able to wear a shield to protect them but over the last 2 years I found I was grinding and breaking my teeth in the daytime as well - and that led to my broken teeth becoming so sharp that I was biting bits off my tongue - causing it to swell and prevent me from wearing the shield and also causing me breathing problems - it's such a catch 22 situation - I've asked for something to help me chill a bit better - as my antidepressants don't work in that way - but my GP's all refuse to help me out. As I type I'm aware that I've just bit a piece of my tongue off - yet again - and boy does it sting! Owwwwwwyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Gentle hugs,
Carol x
yes mine are to.... but i didnt understand why.. maybe it is the fibro xx
I have finally found out why from my dentist - the dry mouth caused by anti-depressants and other meds is causing my teeth to disintegrate. There is not enough saliva to kill the bacteria that rot your teeth.
There are products you can take for dry mouth - have a word with your dentist or have a look at the dental section in Boots.
Chewing sugar-free gum and drinking loads of water can help too.
And be meticulous with oral hygiene.
thanks for bringing this up i really did not think of the conection but i went from 0 fillings to horrid teeth in a short time infact now you mention it since my fms even before diagnosis gentle dyslexic hugs
hi i brush my teeth 2x a day morn/nihht and they are all discoloured and are awful i dare not go to the dentist in case he thinks i am lying lol but i really should they look awful ihave bought all those whitening toothpastes but no good can anyone reccommend one that actually works like your teeth are yellow and a week later they are cream/white lol love diddle x
yep my teeth have broken n some have little chips in them ,i googled this symptom n it can b FM that causes problems with teeth x
I have broken three and chipped all my front ones. i have put down to grinding them at night due to pain. theres not much that can be done i dont think. At the moment I am wearing a mandibular advancement device at night to bring my lower jaw forward (As well as using a CPAP machine to breath) But I am finding that i must still be trying to grind my teeth as i wake up feeling like they are pressing into the 'plastic' or whatever the device is made from.. i can see that not lasting long as i will be wearing holes in it!! The one i have wasnt available eon NHS but my sleep clinic must have permission to authorise them being made. I looked up online to see how much it would have cost me to be refereed to this particular dental practice that fitted it…. £330..so i am going to be costing the NHS a bit more the rate i'm going!! lol what a relief I'm not having to pay it myself
I am pretty sure similar gum shields must be available to protect your teeth from breaking xxx
My mother was diagnosed with arthritis and fibromyalgia and has been managing with small doses of vicoden only when she can barely take it anymore. She's had these issues for years and about two years ago has taken the journey to find a cure for her pains. She tried the traditional Western medicine route via doctors and pain management specialists which landed her on higher doses of pain meds and eventually morphine, it was then that she started noticing her hair texture changing, getting almost rougher, and then her teeth started to chip. She immediately removed herself off of those medicines which she claimed weren't dealing with the issue and simply masking it. I was glad she could see this as to most of her other brothers and sisters (my aunts and uncles) have allowed themselves to get hooked on copious amounts of pain meds. She went through a rough withdrawal period and I talked to her on the phone everyday, (I am in NYC, she is in VA), it was very hard for her. After coming off of the morphine though, she noticed her hair texture going softer again and she wasn't having issues with her teeth anymore. She is still on her journey of finding the right combination of diet and exercise and stress reducing activities to combat her pain.
All my back teeth broke after being on Morphine for 6 weeks, it was nearly a life time ago about 20years ago, but they just began to crumble away. I was so shokced as I have always had a thing about my teeth.
I wonder if our teeth are an early warning sign tat we have Fibro, I certainly had problems with my jaw and put it down to all the neck traction I had when I severely injured my neck I had traction at three week intervals with a neck crane under my jaw and to the back of my head and breast plate. This went on for 6 months but it was 25 years ago. These old injuries do come back to haunt you!
I have read that a trigger for fibromyalgia can be a whiplash injury!! I have not been diagnosed yet but have trawled many sites online to help find why I am suffering with the pains etc etc and this particular bit of knowledge struck me as I had suffered a whiplash (minor so I thought) injury previously to the exacerbation of the signs and symptoms I am experiencing. Could this apply to you??
