Fibro worse with sugar?

I got to a better place with my fibro with a healthy diet, water, exercise, low dairy, low gluten, and low sugar. I've fallen into all of the opposite over Christmas and can't believe how poorly I feel. I've also come off vitamins as my GP said I have high iron and B12. Trouble is the pain stops you from having the energy to do all the above.

I’m trying to start again, but I'm finding it so hard, even though I know it will help.

I'm in the same place as you right now as I'm having a flare-up due to the weather (and I think probably sugar). It's taken me nearly a week to start over but I'm trying to incorporate one thing at a time and take it day by day.

I think I might do that too — sounds more achievable. So difficult to have the willpower when I'm in pain.

Refined sugars, absolutely floor me. Natural sugars don't have the same effect for me. Of course what works for me won't necessarily work for others. When I fall off the wagon boy oh boy do I know it!

I'm starting to see that, too. I eat fresh, nutritious meals, and then the chocolate monster calls, and I pay for it. Ah, well, I'm only human, I guess. I'm trying to be treatwise and back on the walnuts and fruit, which seems to help.

I am diabetic and loved chocolate so know what you mean. I am allowed chocolate provided it is very dark 85%. Honestly one square is more than enough to quieten the chocolate monster and send it to sleep. In fact it apparently has health benefits too. Worth giving it a try because it doesn't seem to interfere with the fibro.

oh I know how you feel, I’m the same I’ve been good for a whole year and two weeks of Christmas just ruined it all! Massive flare ups but I’m back on course with diet exercise and back on my magnesium so hoping to get back into the right regime. No good knocking yourself about it we just have to pick ourselves up literally 🤣 and move on. Keep away from Easter 😩😱😵‍💫

Glad I’m not the only one. I'm slowly changing my habits back. I'm trying magnesium too.

How will you plan next Christmas?

More sun, less sugar.

-For energy I sometimes use 1 teaspoon of D-Ribose 3 times a day in a drink(but not after 5pm) - See instructions on the pot. It's a different kind of sugar substance. You can google about it and Amazon sells it. I started it years ago but take frequent rests from it. - Me too with sweet stuff especially mars bars from Halloween on, as there were very many sadnesses and stresses to deal with and the quick sugar fix really enabled me to just about cope, most of the time, in spite of flares... I put on a stone in weight but am on red potatoes now as quite good effects on mood and at night! - Read a helpful article on them.

-In a month the extra daylight may be giving you more of a lift too and your craving for sugar will go down a lot. The Christmas thing just does what it does! That's why we put up lights! Don't feel a n y guilt at all. The weather and the darkness have affected just about everybody... IT REALLY HAS BEEN AWFUL THIS WINTER! But ... the Robins are back, so things are definitely looking up. Here's wishing you a Happier Spring and that wish goes to all the brave souls on this website.

Thanks for all the tips — I’ll take a look. I love the change in seasons — when I see snowdrops, it reminds me that Spring isn't too far away.

I know it's not good or healthy for me but I won't cut out all the good (bad) stuff as I think I've missed out on for this horrible disease enough so I have a costa frappe 3x a week and a pud after roast on a Sunday 😋 I deserve it
