So sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. It's horrible. I would try phoning your dentist to see if he can prescribe stronger pain relief. The dentist is more knowledgeable than the GP so I would think he should be able to help. Get well soon x
My Dentist is a really nice lady who has done her very best with me especially with having knowledge with Fibro so gentle as much as she can, But there's only so much before I start shouting out, Seeing the faces of people in the waiting room hahaha
Firstly glad you are home and have finally had the dental surgery.
I empathise as I had to have seven removed in the same way.
I got bored of soup very quickly (itβs something I donβt normally eat/drink as I donβt particularly like it). So I for a short while used things like porridge or angel delight - anything soft. For me this βdietβ was for approximately three weeks then I added things like mashed potato with gravy or beans. You WILL get there - trust me xx
So scared we almost didn't go, It's done now I already wear a top denture but not wearing them until things settle, Then I'll be fitted with the bottom lot,
I went through something similar, when I was 11 years old in the US(where I grew up). I had to have 8 teeth(4 baby, 4 adult) removed surgically(under full anesthetic) as my jaw was too small to accommodate all my teeth, and the 4 adult teeth were going up into my sinuses instead. I was given what looked liked a bit like neck gaiter, but with less fabric that I could wrap around by jaw/head and could hold an ice pack or two in it. I was also prescribed codeine mixed with paracetamol(which is basically just cocodamol). I also took ibuprofen as well(this helps with inflammation). Also had to rinse my mouth with lukewarm saltwater every morning and night. The pain was terrible and it lasted for at least a month, and it wasn't fully healed for probably two months. As for foods, I would eat soup, ice cream, chocolate mousse, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, smoothies, milkshakes, apple sauce, soft desserts like Angel Delight, etc. You could also have stuff like custard, rice pudding, porridge, polenta, etc. I definitely got sick of the soft foods too, and was so happy to eat solid foods again. Hope you are feeling better soon!
Aww, that's hard Debsdelight. My situation is not the same as your own but I have just been diagnosed with severe arthritis in my lower spine. My GP has put my gabapentin up from 100mg x2, 3 times a day to 300mg three times a day, plus paracetamol with a review in 4 weeks. I was diagnosed last year with arthritis in the middle of my spine and a herniated lumbar disc. You could do with a pain relief review with your doctor. It's very hard too that you can't have your Christmas dinner. Maybe you can plan to have a special meal with your husband later, when you have your new dentures? Thinking of you today and keeping you in my prayers xx π€π
I've had many teeth removed in my time and can only say that do the salt washes twice as often as they tell you to (but REALLY gently) as it aids the healing and takes away that bloody taste; for the pain, a combination of 2 x Ibruprofen & 2 x 30/500 co-codamol (prescription only in UK if you can get them from your GP) or 8/500 (over the counter but obviously not as good) can be taken up at the same time up to 4 times a day (ie a total of 16 tablets). This hits all 3 sites of how the pain gets to your brain and truly has been the only thing that has helped me get through the pain from toothache and extractions. I was initially recommended this by my Dentist when I had a dry socket - where the scab comes away and your jawbone is exposed!
I hope you get there soon - In my picture, I show the abscess I had which was caused by a bridge implant going bad, this meant I had to get all the teeth and roots out from under where the bridge had been. Looking at the pictures date of the removal it was the 2nd of December 2023... I definitely ate my Xmas dinner (although carefully and with temporary dentures) at my daughter's that year so worry ye not, there is still a month to go and gums can heal really quickly! The final pic is me with my new dentures πππ
My old dentist said I needed root canal and one filling back in 2019, Up until then the only thing I had was a small chip in one of my top front tooth, After the root surgery I noticed a hair line crack from top to bottom, π¬, Then I was taken to hospital during covid and stayed a week, π€π€Whilst in there half the tooth fell out, I was eating soup of all things, Then the other piece came out,
Unfortunately I went into a mental crises for just over a year and am so ashamed to say, I didn't brush my teeth as well as crying a lot and not allowing anyone in to help me π₯Ή,
My Hubby says he'll take some pics when my mouth has stopped hurting, Thanks for sharing
