From what I understand anyone can register been disabled if they meet the criteria. The benefits you can apply for appear to be no different to what people can apply for now. PIP, carers allowance etc.
To be eligible for registration, people must meet certain criteria, such as: Being 18 or older, Having a substantial and permanent disability, Having a learning disability, Having mental health problems, and Having visual or hearing loss.
Registration is voluntary and doesn't automatically entitle people to services.
Hi dizzy, thanks for your reply.I have done some research on Internet but of course there are many conflicting information that you don't know what to believe , that's why I am asking if someone knows and or can share their experience about it.
Hi, in my area, I get a free bus pass, can’t use it, but nice to know, blue badge, reduced rate for disabled cabs, free train, dial a ride , you have to apply for that, underground, can’t use it again, but nice idea, basically anything that the council can help with in my area, we get help, as long as we are registered, check with your local council, and see what help they offer in your area. Good luck.
Hi Blue,Thank you very much for your info, that's also what I have read , so good to know that's true.
Pip refused me the mobility component (not enough points) and I am too ill to fight it.. I will wait my knee operation to make a change of circumstances and hopefully that will help me with the mobility part?
What proofs did you need to show them to be registered as disabled?
Because you didn’t get mobility on pip, it may hinder you, I got top rate on mobility, so I had proof for everything, I get higher rate, because I have more illnesses, not just fm, my mobility is very bad, and I use a powered wheelchair, I know it’s hard trying to get a, my brain fog has just kicked in huh, mandatory reconsideration, I couldn’t think for a minute lol, but you must try, if your mobility is poor, then find out why they gave you no points, it’s all very testing, but we have to fight for what we need.
You are right.I did requested the full report and it's full of stuff I never said , plenty of assumptions that never been mentioned (I have the recording) and so on. Of course they do that so as a consequence to give less points..
Now I am too exhausted to fight it and my doctor's gave me supporting letters too late for MR, still waiting two of them.
I am so disappointed and enraged that actually is also flaring me up.. on top of that I can't risk to loose my actual pip, I wouldn't be able to live.
So taking everything in consideration I think it's better for me to call them back the day after the knee operation and telling them of a "change of circumstances".. i didn't do it on my last knee operation that, after almost two years, still didn't recovered well (they created mistakes during the op so now they have to fix them with another operation) and didn't tell them at the time of it as I was too fragile to endure anything.. this time, I have to do it straight after the operation, i cant don't tell them again because I lost so much money just to pay for taxi etc to go to hospital appointments in the past because I couldn't even do one step alone so .. I am shocked even explaining them this, he didn't even written anything about it, nor that I am awaiting surgery nothing..
Anyway sorry for the rant .
Thank you very much for your help, it's very much appreciated, really.
I hope you are doing well and not in too much pain. I know now with the mental fog you just need to rest..
It just that I am suffering from fibromyalgia, including chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and a thousand other symptoms. On top of it I have to use crutches since over 3 years now because I have hyper mobility of joints and dislocated my knee several times to the point of breaking my knee, had an operation, they created new issues during the operation, I am awaiting another operation.. so right now I am disabled yes. I cant function properly with everything that's going on , and adding depression and anxiety doesn't help at all.
I was wondering if we can be removed from the disabled register in the future because as the leg can be fixed (at least I hope so) and fibromyalgia fluctuates, I am wondering is there a kind of "change of circumstances" kinda of thing for that register too.
(Of course that's me wishing to be back as the healthy individual that I was Years ago, something that I don't think will ever be possible again.. but hope is the last thing to die)
Here is another Hug 🤗 to help you through the day. I am registered disabled. The only thing it really helps me with is that I have a blue badge. This is due to not being able to walk far as my knees have osteoarthritis but the fibromiagia doesn't help either as this at times makes it even worse for me.So it is worth a try but the questions are all about being able to do things.
in my knowledge, albeit not a lot but also with similar conditions as yourself, there is no ‘registered disabled’. I don’t know if you receive PIP that counts, but often disabled people are knocked back form PIP. Also you have to tell the DVLA if you have a disability that could affect your driving .
Hi! Also it is advisable to make accurate declarations to insurance companies eg travel. They can be changed in future if your circumstances improve. BUT if you don't declare then that is what they will jump on in the event of any claim. I have not had any issues including increased premiums. I have ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and high blood pressure. Hope that helps x
I paid £20 for disabled rail card so get third off my rail tickets and so I’ve definitely got my money back . I don’t think it’s registering disabled as such as don’t think there is a list but as I get pip and need the help it’s worth it . If I applied for job in past it asks do you have a disability i always ticked yes as it’s the truth. I ask for extra help if travelling on a plane which is rare so maybe look at each outside of house thing you do . Eg a recent outing allowed me extra time to board first so it helped me but also I didn’t panic as wasn’t holding people up .
I can’t see it would be a worry as I am grateful for the help fit any extra bit .
Thank you very much for your advice and personal experience, very much appreciate it.I will check for the disabled rail card. It seems that you can also sync it with an oyster card too.
Thank you for this info, I will see if I can apply for it tomorrow, as now I can no longer concentrate properly.
Have a good evening , and hopefully a restful night xx
Hi there, the UK Disability register ended in the 1990's and there is no current equivalent, however you can still register as blind (I'm assuming that isn't your query though). I used to work for Citizen's Advice and this is a very common concern - whether you have to/should register your disability and any resulting consequences.
Instead, you declare any disability you have or yourself as a disabled person each time you apply for benefits/bus passes/Blue Badges etc.
I have always used my Blue Badge as confirmation of my status as a disabled person if I've ever needed to, and although I don't drive I applied for it to use as 'proof' because my disabilities are largely invisible.
Thank you very much for you advise pokerf, very much appreciate it.Unfortunately my pip review was unfair as when I read the full report the assessor just wrote assumptions and responses that I didn't say.. so so frustrating. As a result, they only gave me 4 points of mobility.. it's like nothing. Barr in mind I am in crutches, had one knee operation and needing another one.. yet no mobility awarded.. I am too exhausted and weak to go against them now.. I also recorded my phone assessment.. thinking that I can't afford to loose the small amount they are giving me, I will wait for the knee operation for a "change of circumstances".. hopefully once post operation, they will award me the mobility component?!
