Hi - I haven't read about any changes to PIP, rather the abolishment of Work Capability Assessments & changes to Universal Credit were mentioned in the recent Budget. These changes would not happen until 2026/7 at the earliest, or as late as 2029, if they do indeed happen, so please try not to worry if you can.

I have received a letter today inviting me to a Work capability assessment and I have to say I am feeling very anxious about it. I get the standard PIP for both and new style employment and support allowance. I have had to stop teaching so these benefits are my only income. I filled in a very, very long form a couple of months ago and I think they are probably checking that Iā€™m not lying.

I have terrible anxiety on top of fibromyalgia and I know Iā€™ll not sleep at all until itā€™s over on April 12th.

I donā€™t really know why but it could just be that Iā€™m not in any specific group yet. Iā€™m still sending in fit notes every couple of months.

Iā€™ll let you know how it goes.

As far as I am aware there is no change to pip yet the change was work capability assessment that is what you may be speaking of when you say he has been told to get a job they may have found him fit for work so I would contact them about this. The change in the assessment as far as I know has not been voted on yet and will not be done till the next sitting of parliament and then will take a couple of years at least to put into practice. Please don't worry once it has been then pip will be tge gate way benefit how that is all going to work is unclear and once the WCA has been scrapped the universal health system that they will use they said will be voluntary so if you cannot look for work tgey cannot force you to at least that is what they have said work and benefits website are a good source to know hat is happening and when it will explain it all to you but its nothing to worry about right now and please check the letter again make sure which assessment you are speaking of cause it does sound like the work capability assessment and the person has been found fit for work so you needvto appeal that

a few weeks ago i applied to have my PIP looked at again as my condition had changed, i had a bad reaction to the covid vaccine and can now only do about 20 mins a day of normal daily activity. they claim that my condition has not changed since my last review in 2018, (covid was 2020) and that because a doctor had not PRESCRIBED my walking sticks that they are NOT necessary aids, my gp sent me to a physio before i was diagnosed and she gave me 1 stick, this was all she had and told me to buy another one, i went back to my gp he agreed with her and also sent me to a consultant

Good morning Catherine. If you have a question or a query it would be a great help if you started a new post.

There is no changes to pip, They are just abolishing the Work Capability Assessment for people to make it easier for disabled people as currently they have to got to multiple interviews now They will only have one interview if you have limited capability, so nothing to worry about x

as far as Iā€™ve heard our money is going up in April, but on the government website, it is possible pip may change, Aā€™s universal support is taking over universal credit, and how it works with people with disabilities and work, It is not known yet if pip is going to be fazed out, but they are looking to bring in changes this summer. I donā€™t think this is enough time to change everything, so donā€™t panic. Keep an eye on the government website to keep updated with changes.

And remember, they are only putting people back in work if they are able, keep all your letters and emails up to date ready for the change, and you will be fine.

you are very welcome, please donā€™t panic, it will all be a phased period, I donā€™t think it has been explained very well. Most people think it will take until 2025-26, but itā€™s phased in the same as the child care, which is within a year, not 3 years.
