Hi all, hope everyone is as well as can be. I was wondering if anyone else gets jumpy when a sudden noise happens, like when a door opens suddenly making a noise, or the phone starts to ring when you are right next to it.
I jump out of my skin at times when the phone rings at work whilst I am doing something else. Or when someone barges into a room. It is not all the time, but it does seem to happen more when it is fairly quiet or I am concentrating on something. It is also just certain sudden noises, it doesn't happen when my mobile phone rings, or when there are other load noises around.
I do also suffer from anxiety so maybe that is the reason for it. I do get sudden spasms with Fibro but this is different so don't think it is part of that, but wondered if anyone else with Fibro gets it?

Not directly a fibro symptom however saying that, fibro can make us hypersensitive to noise. Anxiety and stress can also have an impact
I can be jumpier some days more than others - especially if anxious or in high pain. Also, if you are concentrating/focused on something you are more likely to jump at sudden noises - fibro or not
Hi Fibronewbiejab, I’ve noticed over time the more sensitised my central system has become the more I’m sensitised to noise & the more I’m sensitised to noise the more I jump at unexpected noises. For me it’s a direct correlation with or without stress. I definitely jump more at unexpected noises when I’m concentrating. It’s when a noise breaks the silence isn’t it!
Yes I do sometimes jump out of my skin when someone walks into a room etc, as others have mentioned, I'm very sensitive to loud noises, and just put it down to that, I'm not anxious at all. I usually just laugh it off, it's just one of those things.
I don't think it's anything to do with Fibro, If your worried or it's new you should get in touch with your GP,
I've always been jumpy since childhood, Along with being nervous and have problems with anxiety, I would say it has something to do with our old friend 'Fight or flight', I've had the old jump and smashing whatever was in my hand,😱😱😱
When Hubby and I were dating whoever got home (Shared house) first would hide and clobber the other with a pillow, Like the movie Pink panther, I seem to have failed more because I'd be giggling so much🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have no medical knowledge, I can only give my experience and advice and no more as long as it ends with a laugh we should embrace it,😄
Yes, I have it; I have Cptsd along with my Fibro; although it is mainly under control. It happens when my son creeps up on me, For a big guy he's really soft footed, Or when somebody approaches from behind. Sudden noises are bad triggers too.
I can't use my kitchen sink, it's not near a window, and in a dark corner diagonally opposite the door. Needless to say I'm getting a new kitchen as soon as possible! (With Mirrored Splashbacks!) And another Dishwasher!
