I'm trying to puzzle out why my system seems over sensitive to so many medicines. I'm not allergic to them but experience such significant side effects that I stop taking them- usually a fast pounding heartbeat. I did ask my GP about it and she just said 'oh, some people are just more sensitiv,e than others'. Another clue, perhaps, is that the endocrinologist says I lack an enzyme which allows other people to turn levothyroxine into the active form of thyroid hormone - so I take a different kind of thyroid hormone.
The thing is, it seriously limits the drugs I can take, including one or two which would fend off problems in the future if I could take them.
Is this a fibro thing which others recognise, or just a me thing?

hi, a lot of us are sensitive to the meds, I can’t tolerate any of them, , I sometimes take cocodamol, in small doses, but I’m either sick or it kicks my ibs off, with other meds, you are not alone.
I'm the same..it's a nightmare! For my fibromyalgia all I can take is paracetamol. I can tolerate codeine phosphate which I take for IBSD and have done for a long time. I have high blood pressure and have tried lots of tablets to try and reduce it. I am on my 5th tablet after having extreme side effects and therefore had to one by one stop them. Some people seem to be able to take tablets with very little side effects but unfortunately I'm not one of them! It is so dibilitating so can relate to your problems. Look after yourself x
Sadly it’s all too familiar. Fibromyalgia is not just a musculo-skeletal disorder but involves the central nervous system.
If I look back before a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, I have always had a sensitivity to sound, light, smells, hearing and touch to varying degrees. Also to irritants like chlorine, ammonia, dust and smoke. Some drugs I can’t tolerate including painkillers and anti inflammatory medicines.
Hopefully over time with the appropriate thyroid medication you may find some of your symptoms resolving.
Sensitivity to medications in itself is not a fibro thing and can happen to anyone but fibro does seem to make a lot of people hypersensitive to many things (medication, light, sound, smells etc).
