prednisolone and fibro

Hi all , I have been put on prednisolone for a flare of my polymyalgia rheumatica recently and it’s really helping with my Fibro . Now I know it’s not really something the docs want to keep you on due to side effects, but has anyone else found the benefits of this - really interested to hear what you think

Thanks in advance and gentle hugs to all x

it really did help me , I could literally jump out of bed never been so pain free , but unfortunately the side affects are not great & I personally had a lot of side effects that took a long time to disappear & and a long time for my immune system to recover.take care 🙂

It's a very strong Steroid, just be aware of the long term effects . Not something I would take tbh .

Sometimes we have no choice health wise but to take them but I agree side effects are not good

You always have a choice ! Pain management comes in and being able to live thru the pain knowing that it will be better .

Hi, I had a 5 day course of prednisolone for a massive allergic reaction which landed me in hospital and I found my pain went too but it soon returned when i stopped taking them but the side affects taking them were not pleasant. There's no doubt steroids are magic for short term emergency care when all else fails but so damaging long term. I call them devil pills as you're really dancing with the devil taking them 😬. Such a pity for us fibro suffers as ironically they could be our answer 😏. Gentle hugs back XX

Yes I too got great relief from my ME and fibro from taking Pred. I didn't think they were causing any damage just replacing what my adrenals weren't producing from years of stress. But now at 75 I have spinal stenosis. Wondering if the steroids have caused it. Or if it was 12 months of chemo that's wrecked my body.Apparently though lack of vitamin B12 which I resently found I've had , can cause spinal degeneration.

The body is very complex. Be cautious though.

I too felt great on it but beware when you come off the pain for me was like a hundred times worse for , or maybe it’s because I’d forgotten what pain free body felt like , but long term it’s no good for us

Glad you are getting some temporary relief, from what I am reading it will be a temporary medication then due too side affects it can cause, I know doctors use Steroids too try and put right a medical problem , I was on them a a few years back, take care x

well my rheumatologist promised me it was only temporary but I take 10mg a day and have for 12 years and will not take me off which is annoying . It does help with pain but my body is so reliant on it now.Try and get off it when you can

I have been on steroids 12 years, but always told by my doctors and Rheumotologists over the years I must lower and if possible get off. I started on 15 mg, now at 4.5mg.....The struggle from 7mg is the adrenals trying to kick in to provide cortisol......

Try yourself very slowly over several weeks at each mg to lower......good luck.....

Did 1 mg reduction and made me so ill today.Rheumatologist says no to reduce. You are doing so well

1 mg far to high a dose to lower all at once that can be dangerous for some....it should be done at your half mg over several weeks, if you go on Polymyalgia forum they have all the info on there, look for Q&A......some people lower half mg over 2 months. Amazed at the advice from your Rheumatologist?

I will ask gp if I can have some half mg.

Sorry didn’t explain you need 1 mg to cut in half with a snipper, can buy in any chemist, very easy. Some people cut them in half . Good luck

Yes, been on pred 12 years for Polymyalgia.......also diagnosed 2 years ago with Fibro.......lowered to 4.5 mg......it's the deathly fatigue I find the worst!....it's a struggle because of waiting for adrenals kicking in.......do things very slowly......
