fed up of this life

as the title says.. I’m fed up of this life. I know that there are others worse off than me I get it, but lately I can’t seem to shake this feeling off of feeling ugly, disgusting and disappointing.

I’m sick of being in pain and swollen! I don’t remember the last time my hands weren’t or my knees or arms and having one day where my clothes fit and then another when there too tight. They keep saying lose weight, keep moving but yet I’m so tired, in pain and swollen it’s the last thing I think of.

I’ve probably been to every department and all I get is “we don’t know what causes it”, “there’s no treatment for it, lose weight”. I think it’s time for a dr trip to see if I can have my pain medication upped as I’m massively relying on co codmol ans ibuprofen gel and it’s not doing anything, hence why I’m awake writing this because I’m in too much pain to sleep.

Any one else feel like there annoying there GP? Because I do! I always think I’ve wasted an appointment!

If anyone has any positive messages that would be great right now as I’m feeling weak and at the point of disperse

Thanks in advance X

Hi Dash

All I can say is we’re all with you and understand where you’re coming from.

We spend all the dark miserable winter days suffering and thinking how things will improve with the brighter, warm and sunny days. Then it all goes to pot!

The only thing we can do is pace ourselves and be kind to ourselves. Find out what helps, unburden ourselves on here - our safe place with like minded fibro warriors. Listen to our bodies and heed what it’s telling us. Pray our significant others understand and are considerate, caring and kind.

As my old Nan used to say - chin up chuck!

Sending healing hugs 🤗

Oh Dash,

I know where you are coming from; it can be so difficult to motivate yourself when you feel low, but the remedy is truly in your hands. You are the only one who can do it. We can encourage, but you are the one with the power to change yourself.

The swelling is probably because you're not moving, and it can get very painful; the weight of the fluid puts strain on your weight bearing joints. If you are overweight, it merely complicates the problem. Fibro is tiring, and the less you move, the worse it gets, unfortunately. Many of us call ourselves Fibro Fighters, or Fibro warriors, because we are at war with our own pains, and our own bodies, and the mental urge to rest makes things worse.

By sitting around, you are just making things worse for yourself.

I very much doubt your doctor will increase your painkillers, especially not opioids. There is a drive to get us all off opioids totally. Ask for dietary advice, and if you can see a physiotherapist for exercise advice. You will feel much better after you start to lose weight, and your energy will return, also your mood will lift.

My son was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and he has lost 2 stone and feels a lot better already. I eat along with him, and I have also been losing weight, just by following a low carbohydrate diet.

You are young, with a life ahead of you; I'm 76, and mine is nearly over, but I'm not going out without a fight! My knees are in poor shape, but that's old age and knocking them about too much.

Once you get exercising (no, I don't mean lashing out for a Gym membership; Tried it , it was boring!). Getting up off the couch and walking is the best exercise, as well as swimming. You don't have to do route marches, just walk to the shops instead of taking the bus (I Take a Taxi to my Doctor's surgery and then walk back. It's about a mile and a half). I walk to and from my Supermarket (about half a mile each way). Slogging back up the hill with a load of shopping makes me out of breath, and I have to stop a couple of times, but it's working. (I get my main shop delivered).

Tai Chi is a good form of excercise, slow and gentle; Or, believe it or not, Bellydance! Both are low impact, but good workouts. Have a look in your local Library, they often have a board for local ads for classes.

Apart from that (weather permitting) I do some light gardening. With the prices of food nowadays,it has become a necessity. I use raised beds because if I get down I can't get back up!

Cheers, Midori

I can concur with belly dancing. I used to attend classes whilst still in the midlands. It was fun and you’re around ladies who are there to enjoy and learn. Unfortunately I’ve not moved away from that area and can no longer go 😖

I’ve got a couple of DVDs which I’ll have to dig out and start again. I think you can also find lessons on YouTube!!!

Happy dancing 🕺

Never think your wasting an appointment, doctors have a duty of care and sometimes we need too be heard and get help. Try and get in at your surgery and even make some notes so you tel the doctor everything (I’ve sometimes left an appointment and forgot too ask something) I hope you get in very soon xx

Hang in there Dash

I agree with all the other comments but also find a little hobby that you like that you can do at home when things seem empty. Puzzles, Knitting, crafts, painting, just something serene that makes you concentrate but also forget what’s going on around you for a moment or two 🙏

Sometimes accepting there are things we can’t change, like our Fibro and it’s symptoms, but fighting the things we can change, like our weight, our thinking, our relationships and friendships, our outlook in life, can make all the difference.

I personally always have a CBT booklet on my desk along with my journal, and when I stop being mindful of my mental health, I flick through and start doing some of the tools in there. With any chronic illness, nourishing our minds is extremely important and worth the energy.

Sending you good thoughts and hope to wherever you are 🙏

What a brave person you are to share your true feelings of each symptoms your trying to live with. There are many members on this site who totally get your words and feelings and frustration you feel each minute of the day.

You are a strong lady and will get over these horrible feelings currently going through your mindset. Take time to think of a couple of simple steps to make you feel confident in your overwhelming

Thoughts. I know your in pain but to focus on easy exercises will ease pain if you move more. Chair exercises are the best when moving is hard. Look on YouTube they have lots on there about chair exercises and movement.

Ask your GP about talking Therapist groups they used to be called healthy minds if you go onto your local community you should find one near you and you are able to Refer yourself by completing a form on line.

Ask your GP about a dietitian to support you in weight loss or putting you forward to the NHS weight forward groups which help you to lose weight living with long term illness. These courses are done by video call which is easy to linked with others and listen to there tips to help themselves.

Other courses will be available .

living with long term pain. If just one of them .

Unfortunately GPs don't appear to offer these services offen you have to ask and push them to see its not just about fibromyalgia it's how it's affected your life. Mindset and happiness and your weight and movements and you as a person.

There so much more help you could get out there. It's not all about pain killers which end up not working after a while .

Test a tens machine they are good for pain. Use warm oil to rub into you muscles. Do exercise feet and legs while resting this will stop your muscles going stiff. We all need to keep our muscles strong and relaxed .

Don't let this illness take over you get back in control with small steps. I brought myself a sit down bike which keeps me moving when I can. It hurts to start with . I started doing 5 minutes aday and now up to 20 minutes. I not able to do each day but as long as I reach 3 times a week I am happy with that . My mobility is very important to me and I focus on moving because of osteoarthritis in both knees and fibromyalgia it's hard work. Don't give up we are all behind you . Get what you deserve more Support. Big hugs 🫂 🤗 ❤️ take care
