FM/a test

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group. I have lived with fibro for at least 12 years now. I'm considering getting the fibro blood test. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten the blood test to confirm their diagnosis?

Hello fibrowarrior77, which blood test is that ? I didn’t think there was a specific blood test to diagnose fibroblasts? 🧐

Hah! That's ok. The FM/a test to help diagnose Fibromyalgia is a fairly new test. I was just wondering if anyone has gotten the test and how they feel about it in general.

its not that new and has not been validated and the person behind it has questions to answer. There is a long expose by a journalist on him.

Hi FibroWarrior, yes I had the FM/a test done as part of a study. It was free for me. I came here and other fibromyalgia online support groups and was told it wasn’t an approved test but just getting the results back on paper gave me the reassurance that fibromyalgia isn’t just “all in your head” diagnosis but validated it for me even through I was diagnosed back in 94 with fibromyalgia and CFS/ME. I had the FM/a test about 5-8yrs ago now. My test said 93% accuracy that I had fibromyalgia.

Thank you so much! I think that I'm going to go ahead and get the test. We have had generations of pain and suspected fibro through my family and I think knowing will help bring peace of mind. Thank you for sharing.

You are welcome. It brought me a feeling that this is real and gave me peace and hope for a cure some day.

I never knew there was a blood test, I was sent to a rhymatologist, he poked and prodded, then told me I had 25/50 pain points so I had Fibromyalgia.

Yes. That has been my first experience as well. There is a blood test that is 93% specific for fibromyalgia now.

If you use the search at the top you will find posts by me and others on why it would be a waste of time and money

I didn’t know there was a specific blood test for fibromyalgia, except to eliminate whether or not there is inflammation in your body. If there is inflammation it is generally due to either arthritis or polymyalgia. With fibromyalgia I believe no inflammation. However if you are in the US perhaps tests etc are different. Good luck anyway!

Hello, I'm in the UK too as I suppose you are. I was unaware of this test and list it was all the other blood tests they've done on me and my doctor just diagnosed fibro by way of exclusion of all the other things. It's hard to tell on this site where somebody is because the medical process and procedures in the US seemed very different from those in the UK when it comes to diagnosis

Process of diagnosis in the UK is the same as the US in that they typically use the acr 2016 diagnostic criteria.

There isnt a blood test for fibromyalgia

The blood test is a viable test for the concentration of cytokines within your blood.

Significantly lower levels of cytokines may be an indicator of fibromyalgia but are not a definitive proof of fibromyalgia so the blood test is not a diagnostic tool

I recently had blood tests to rule out everything else but nothing was mentioned about this. I was diagnosed with normal blood tests and scoring 18/19 on the pressure point test.

I'm in the UK and that was much the same with me. By Dr had other test done to roll out other things like Parkinson's, Ms and cancer and she said it was just by elimination see arrived at fibromyalgia
