I had my blood drawn for the FM/a fibro test.

I had my FM/a blood test done Tuesday and it was shipped overnight to Los Angeles. I should know the results in 7-10 days (I hope). As I wrote in a previous post if I test positive for fibro then I will be able to get the BCG vaccine (a variation of the tuberculosis vaccine when the FDA approves the study being conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital) and I'm sure hoping I will see positive results from that for my very severe fibro. The FM/a blood test measures certain cytokines and chemokines in my blood and in theory if mine are low this BCG vaccine should raise them up to normal and possibly get rid of any fibro symptoms.

I will also be asked to take part in a genome/DNA study being conducted at UCLA in the near future. This study will look at people's DNA to see if their is anything in common that might be causing persons to inherit this gawd awful disease.

Here are two links to studies that have been conducted and published in the medical journals here in the US regarding chemokines and cytokines. And one link to the Fasutman lab who will conduct the BDG vaccine study.

This current theory on the BCG vaccine correcting any blood protein imbalances in my blood sounds as reasonable as any of the other current theories out there as to what causes fibro. I just hope they will conduct this study and I am able to take part before I croak, as I am not getting any younger and am so darned sick of suffering every day. xxoo to all

is there anything in the research you have read that explains the prevalence of the condition in the likes of the UK where the BCG vaccination process is carried out in schools.

The only thing I've read is that it will be a different vaccine. I will require one booster also. If I read anything else I will sure post it.

I just read this: "Globally, but not in the US, there are many different strains of the BCG vaccine.

Are they all the same?

No. BCG strains are very different, and it is known that many strains of BCG are not efficacious against autoimmune diseases."

Keep us posted on how you get on. If it does no harm, it's worth a try is the way I look at things.

I had to have a BCG injection a few days after I was born (1950s, TB common in some areas, parents lived with Gran and another person in the household had TB--- that's as much as I know) I now know I had fibro symptoms as a child, definitely from about 6 years old.

I am just going to be a guinea pig. I'll sure keep everyone posted as this process takes place and I will have to travel to have the vaccine. I sure hope it's just to Los Angeles and not clear across country to Boston. I am in bad shape to be traveling.

If it works it will be known and tried all over the world. If it doesn't there are other theories out there but no current trials that I know of.
