Feel like legs and feet are “Wrapped in Cling Film!”

It’s hard to explain but from the knees down both legs feel very numb and weird when I flex my feet. This has come on progressively and I now realise that I can’t feel hot or cold on them. My bladder is also playing tricks, meaning I can’t tell when I’ve finished a wee as my sensation has completely gone. Had an MRI and do have disc compression on lower right side (L5). I do take Morphine and Amitriptyline but it’s the dead feeling in the legs and feet that is causing me problems and pain. I’m going to have a nerve pain test but I did have something about 5 years ago and the doctor was brutal so will be asking for someone to be in there as I now believe he was out to cause me pain. Should have reported him but was quite shocked and upset with it that I didn’t cause any fuss.

Does anyone recognise this “cling film” feeling, but knows how to better describe it. Thanks for reading xx 😘

Hi, have a look into Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) as it sounds to me like you have at least some of the red flag symptoms and if so it's an emergency and needs treatment very quickly or you can end up with permanent damage. Apologies for being dramatic about it but I've suffered since 1994, undiagnosed til 2020, so my damage is permanent and inoperable. I'm one of the lucky ones though as I can still walk. Thank you so much for your reply and I do see where you’re coming from. I looked into the symptoms of Cauda equina syndrome and it says it is a rare and severe type of spinal stenosis where all of the nerves in the lower back suddenly become severely compressed. Symptoms include: sciatica on both sides. weakness or numbness in both legs that is severe or getting worse. I do not have sciatica thank goodness but other symptoms are similar. But it does sound different in more ways than similar. I have screenshot your reply and will ask GP whether my scan and other tests might suggest further investigations etc. Best wishes to you xx 😘

Hi there. I don’t mean to worry you but if you are losing sensation of urination you need to see your GP that’s not normal.

I have cervical spondylosis (advanced arthritis of the neck) one of the warning signs of this getting worse is exactly what you describe, if you haven’t sought advice please do. All the best.

Hi well i am off morphine now and lots of mental health problems because of it it was poisoning my joints and causing numbness fantom pain . Not in a good place but morphine slowly was poisoning me good luck Julie

Please report symptoms to GP about problems passing urine. This can be a red flag for a serious condition. Let us know how you get on.

the toilet etc. GP is sending me for nerve electrical stimulation tests - not sure exactly as he telephoned me and because I have fibromyalgia I was a bit foggy.
