Hi, I have M.E (32years) and Fibromyalgia (18 years) I'm 45, but for the last 5-6 months the fatigue part has gotten A LOT worse and I'm sleeping more. I'm due to have a blood test soon is there anything I should be asking for and am I able to request these tests or as a patient do I not have any say.
I recently asked to have my vitamin D checked after being found to be deficient last year and given a high strength prescription, I was then told to buy my own vitamins after that (I now take 2500iu Vitamin D3 a day with a K2 Vitamin) and I wanted to be sure they were working as I am housebound so don't get any daylight but I've been told I don't meet the new requirements for the test so can't have it, so I have to have my Calcium level checked which will show if my Vitamin D needs checking.
Thank you, Emma.

They should test your thyroid and B12 levels. Maybe inflammatory markers too - CRP, ESR. I didn't have my vitamin D checked after my high dose prescription either, as they assume it's increased. I did ask for it to be checked when I had more bloods done a couple of years after. I'm not sure how your calcium level gives any indication of vit D?? My calcium has always been fine.
As a patient, you can discuss options with your GP, and they should be asking your thoughts too.
Thanks for your reply, I'll write those down and ask. I'm not sure about the Calcium either as after they found out I was Vitamin D deficient last time they tested my Calcium then as having a low Vitamin D can effect your absorption of Calcium but even though my Vitamin D was low my Calcium was fine!.
Of course you have a say. Sometimes though you have to be quite vocal. Remember doctors work for you not the other way round. I get a full blood test about every two years some ask for it yearly. I completely agree with Camille1 regarding the blood tests she said. Also is your iron ok..Too have both from such a young age is tough for you. Sending you lots of comfy hugs and hope you find a cause for your tiredness that can improve it.
Thanks for your reply, I do have a problem being vocal when it comes to the Doctor, having been poorly from age 13 in 1991 when not many Doctors knew about or believed in M.E I've had to deal with quite a few telling me it's all in my head. I'm trying to be more vocal though, I've got my list so I'm prepared!.
