HiI have a h/ o fibromyalgia and recently diagnosed hypothyroid but for the last year I feel permanently migranous.

I was having 2 a week last summer but after using magnesium patches they disappeared(!) but they are now back( still using the patches)

Thinking of trying co- enzyme q10 and have ordered riboflavin 400mg but has anyone any suggestions?

I have tried triptans from my gp( no help) and propranolol( asthma attack) and amitriptyline no use either

many thanks

Dawn

Hi Rainbowangel, I am sorry to hear you are suffering, I have migraines I have been given Topiramate by my GP to prevent mine, so far touch wood, I have not had a really bad migraine for about 2 years since taking these. I used to get at least two or three a week. I know not everything works for everybody but I hope you find a solution soon.

I was diagnosed with vestibular migraines last year, after years of just having bog standard classic migraines. Interestingly I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in 2020 and I certainly noticed a big increase in the number of migraines I was getting. Dont know if it was the Levothyroxine or the fact I was hypothyroid. My VM affects my balance and causes dizziness, I often dont have a headache but just feel vertigo and really off balance. I tried several migraine preventatives, 5 in fact, didnt get on with any of them. I've been on Venlafaxine since January and have had no more migraines since. Its also greatly helped with the dizziness and balance issues. I'm not completely symptom free but much better than I was. As with any chronic condition finding a medication that suits is trial and error.

As well as meds and supplements cutting out caffeine can really help, including chocolate, as well as MSG foods, cheese, red wine etc. Us migraineurs can be very sensitive to certain foods and drinks. There's a book called Heal Your Headache that is widely recommended and gives lots of tips and advice for chronic migraine.

Hi, I've had good results with Topiramate too. Much less frequent and way less severe. Hope you find something that works for you, migraines are just awful 😔

HiI've started taking Ubiquinol Coq-10 most supplements take a good 4-6 weeks to take affect and this coq 10 needs to be taken with or after food. I.e good fats like avacado olive oil etc it needs good fat to absorb to q10 and to take affect. I also take due to high cholesterol and b.p. I'm also drinking a magnesium powder before sleep which helps and takes affect quite quickly. Don't forget your b12 drops under the tongue and your vitamins d and c and omegas for joints. And a healthy diet with foods high in all these nutrients helps!

Hope this helps, I find liquid forms in powder I.e. diy vitamin drinks at home are quicker to help personally. But keep up with the q10 and let us know if it helps after a while. Good luck all the best!
