Fibromyalgia & Transdermal Pain Patches

HelloDoes anyone else have skin burn marks on the site of application where the patch was applied after using Butec Transdermal Pain Patches ?

For me on day 3 I get this terrible itching from the pain patch application.

After following the medication patch info I'm left with a bleeding skin mark like a weeping & bloody love bite mark which takes about aweek & a half to somewhat heal.

To the eye it looks like you have had a radioactive ☢️ leech stuck on you & after it is somewhat healed your skin texture feels like you've had a pox decease & the skin feels very abrasive indeed.

Antibiotic cream sometimes helps but the soreness is totally immense etc.

Does anyone else have this problem ? As these patches feel like they eat into the skin.

Update I'm awaiting fibromyalgia pain group classes in the new year,do not know if they will work but I'm willing to give them a try as no pain killers work on me & SSRI treatments make me feel so bad that they make me want to be sick & that's even using anti sickness pills to suppress the nausea feeling.

Hope to hear from someone maybe.

Kindest Regards

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this; it sounds incredibly uncomfortable and difficult to manage. Skin reactions like the ones you describe can sometimes occur as a side effect of using Butec Transdermal Pain Patches. It's important not to ignore these symptoms and to follow the steps below:Possible Causes of the Problem:

1. Skin irritation: The adhesive on the patches may cause an allergic reaction or sensitivity, especially after several days of use.

2. Chemical or mechanical burn: Some medication patches can cause a local reaction, particularly on sensitive skin.

3. Secondary infection: If your skin is bleeding or weeping, this could indicate an infection.

Recommendations and Steps to Follow:

1. Consult your doctor: Report these side effects immediately so they can assess whether the patch is the best option or if an alternative method of administration is needed.

2. Change the application site: Try applying the patch to a different area each time to avoid repeated irritation on the same spot.

3. Avoid damaged skin: Do not apply the patch to areas that are already red, damaged, or scarred.

4. Protect your skin: Ask your doctor if you can use a protective barrier, such as zinc oxide cream or hypoallergenic dressings, underneath the Butec patch.

5. Use repairing creams: Apply recommended creams to repair damaged skin, such as those with aloe vera or panthenol, to help it heal faster.

6. Keep the area clean and dry: If you have open wounds, gently clean them and apply an antibiotic treatment as advised by your doctor.

Regarding Pain Management Alternatives:

It’s encouraging that you’re attending pain management group classes next year. These classes often focus on techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), gentle exercise, and pain management strategies, which can be very helpful.

If the patches aren’t working for you, speak to your specialist about alternatives, such as topical treatments, physiotherapy, or adjustments to other medications that may have fewer side effects.

Final Thoughts:

It’s completely understandable to feel frustrated, especially when traditional treatments don’t seem to work for you. It’s vital to share all this information with your doctor so they can find the best solution for your situation while ensuring your skin is protected. Remember, you’re not alone in this.

If you need further support, don’t hesitate to ask in the group. There will always be someone here to listen and offer help. Stay strong!👍🙏💪

Good morning, may I ask do you have any kind of medical qualifications. I only ask because you sound very knowledgeable on numerous questions. Or is it copy and paste info.

Nothing wrong with copy and paste. But may I suggest you be aware of the copyright laws as it would go against our FMUK guidelines.

I too have noticed the same thing. I alternate my top of arm each week. So this week I’ve put in an entirely different place and at the moment there are no burning feelings or bad reactions.

Hi fibroguy66,

Yes I totally understand what your saying, I get the itchiness and a burning feeling which leaves a red mark which can be very sensitive too but I don’t get it to the extremes that you do, I sometimes get it where it burns too much and it gets unbarable but hope you get sorted.

Hi Fibroguy66, I had this problem years ago with them, they just looked like they burnt the skin at top of shoulders, never help with the pain at all. They left me with marks on skin for weeks, till healed. I just think we are all allergic to some skin products, and I think these were to me, added to the fact that they never worked, so stopped them, as just trying different pain meds at time.

Yes! My upper arms are too sore and sensitive now despite creaming them every day. I now put them on alternate upper thigh. They seem a bit tougher than my arms. Just keep changing the place where you put the patch. Aveeno Kids cream slathered on afterwards seems to help a bit.

Hi so sorry to read about your discomfort with pain patches and your skin . I had the same problem with pain patches and skin irritations. Every area a patch was placed turn the skin rough after blisters. I mentioned to my GP who stopped me using immediately. I was changed onto oral morphine instead of buprenorphine transdermal patches due to skin adhesive allergy. Hope you get sorted out very soon. Pain is one off the most unbearable conditions to explain to anyone

HelloThe pain is nasty by far.

I'm on a 7 day patch then remove & then apply another etc.

Day 3 I get the scratching & itching & then onwards I get the mega burn & skin peel lifting etc.

I'm pleased I'm single at this moment in time so other people cannot witness what the patches do too me.

Thankyou so much for writing

Kindest Regards

Yes I had weeping blisters and it was so sore. Took quite a bit of time to heal and in some places you can still see a very feint outline. I had to stop, using them which was such a shame as they were better than taking meds.

Not with these patches but others. Originally fine for a few months and then began to irritate after a few days to the point that then could only cope with a day before needing to remove. Blisters etc. apparently a reaction to the adhesive. Had to stop using them.
