UPDATE...Recommendations please

UPDATE. Sorry Long but good news.

I am am one extremely sore but happy bunny at the moment.

Fri I was busy scrolling through Facebook marketplace, just having a nose when a rise recline chair caught my notice.

opened it up here was this new looking wide, well padded rise recliner with heat and massage.

Messaged if still available, yes it was.

Only issue it's 3 hours drive from mine to there.

Ok so i call my best friend to ask if she was free all day Saturday and if so did she want a daytrip to Dundee with me to share the driving. She jumped at the chance and it also meant she could surprise her son as that's where he lived.

Organised my dad to come dogsit. All sorted.

So on Saturday off me and my friend trundle. Finally find the shop. It was an aladdins cave of treasures. I could have spent ages and lots of money on various items.

Id been messaging the woman all day so she was expecting me. Her husband connected the chair up so I could try it out. It was wide enough for my butt plus wiggle room, it laid back almost horizontal, had big soft cushions that felt amazing. Everything worked. My friend had gone off exploring the shop with her son and my phone suddenly pinged. Another friend had messaged me a picture she had found of my brother who I lost in Dec. It was a close up of him with his cheesy smile and a thumbs up.

Well it made me laugh out loud as it was like he was approving of the chair. My friend in the shop said all she could hear was me laughing and she said it was so nice because its been awhile since she had heard me do that.

So I brought the chair, but not only that I also had made arrangements whilst in that area to go look at a bath chair in a place 15 mins from Dundee, kill 2 birds with one stone.

We got lost following Google maps and eventually found this place. It looked like a show home, It was this huge Palace of a house.

The owner was so lovely and she showed us through her house, which was so clean sparkly and white, into this huge bathroom with a huge walking shower and a spa bath. She showed us the bath chair. It sits like 2 inches of the bath base and reclines. It goes up and down electrically. It too was spotless.

So took that as well.

So heading home £350 lightly but some amazing bargains in boot of my friends car.

I have saved myself £3.5 to 4k that's what two quotes I had from 2 companies to come make a chair.

Cannot wait to have a bath, that's been something I have missed so much.

I know it was a long way to travel but it was so worth it and it was so great to be excited about something again.

Hi Has any one had any experience of buying a rise recliner chair?

How did you decide on what company to use?

I've had 2 companies come and give me their spiel and quotes but cannot decide.

Any recommendations from people who have actually used them?

Did having a bespoke chair help alleviate some discomfort?

Also would any one recommend have a walk in Bath as opposed to one of the inflatable cushions seats?

Do you know if there is anywhere to help with funding/grants to help with purchasing these items?

Hi, I bought one for my partner, lower price range (Nevada) the leg raise broke once before the years warranty so it was repaired by the company I bought it from but then it went again just outside of the year and they wanted me to pay for the repair. So it was a total waste of £600, you definitely live & learn - stay clear of this one 😩

I bought mine from Careco. Tried several out in their showroom. Lots to choose from. Really pleased with it. My mother also bought one from them before her hip surgery and she loves it. Trial and error to find the right one for you. I prefer a softer one as I sleep in mine but Mum has a more firm one. Dual motor ones allow separate settings for footrest and back which is definitely as bonus for me.

My husband and myself both have rise/recliner chairs, we bought them from Ableworld, lots of choice of covers/materials etc. They have been a godsend to us both. They are dual motors so that you can use the footrest without moving the back and vice versa. And as mentioned before you can claim the VAT back.

My recliner js part of my suite and has been marvellous but next time I will definitely have an individual one where I can raise the feet and head independently to give more flexibility in position, my mitherinkaw had one like that which also had a massage function and she felt it was worth the extra money. Leather is easier to keep clean but can be quite sticky in summer and cold in winter but if course a throw helps with this.I have heard negatives and positives about the walk in baths. Unless your bathroom is toasty warm you have to think you will have to sit in the bath in the nude whilst it fills and the do the same whilst the water drains out which takes some time and you can be getting quite cold in the process. You are also in a more upright sitting position and to me a bath is only luxurious if I can recline morem that is just a personal observation.

Before you buy expensive look at house clearance stores, as I have an electric recliner and I had a fantastic deal. Yes second hand but there are clean ones out there. I am pleased with my buy as it could have cost me hundreds.Good look 😏

I can recommend Sherborne recliners. I think if you are registered disabled you get a discount but you have to provide proof of disability if they still do it I'm not sure it's been a few years since I've worked had 16 years in furniture so can highly recommend excellent after care service which most companies don't do anymore good luck

Hi, not sure which area of the country you live in, but Ableworld have a good choice. Maybe ask your local council for advice, a social care assessment to have your needs looked at. Our local council provide a service called 'Early Intervention' who support adults in their own homes and provide advice and/or equipment to help them live independently. Have a search on your local government page

Sorry just threw one out about two weeks ago, big red leather one, the engine burnt out, rather temperamental? Watch out they can be bl###y heavy, as well! I have a big black leather chair, practically saved my life, had to sleep in it for 4 years, while my GP found out I had a benign tumour on my elbow🙄, but it's knackered now, really attached to it!🥰

I use StressFree recliner for work and rest. Very expensive but it is helping with back and leg pain.
