Tingling sensation
Hi, I get symptoms like that almost everyday. I try to go for a walk everyday if I can, which sets it off. When I'm struggling with flair ups and take it easier, the inactivity makes it worse! Listening to my body and never doing too much helps.
Hi, I have struggled with this for about five years. I had some nerve conductivity tests done which showed neuropathy in legs and arms probably from my diabetes however my gp said it is associated with fibromyalgia too. I get a lot of burning skin to do with the nerves too.
Hi I have been living with Fibromyalgia for the last 6 years and it sounds like Restless Leg Syndrome which I also suffer from and take medication for called Naftidrofuryl.
It’s a horrible condition and affects me mainly at night when I’m trying to sleep but can’t because of the pins and needle/ tingling sensation in lower legs and feet. When I’m overly stressed or over exerted myself I can get it anytime.
Please go and see your gp about it.
Thanks for your reply I had a feeling it might be restless legs, oh if only I could actually see a GP that would be good it's phone consultations at my practice! Not sure whether resting maybe with legs up helps or is it better to try keep on the move but that's not easy when your legs feel so tired.
Once gp establishes it is RLS perhaps they can prescribe you medication for it. I started on a low dose and increase it when the symptoms get worse.
When I’m so tired physically and in bed trying to nod off but that horrible creepy crawly sensation in my legs and feet is keeping me awake then I do a few things, I get up and walk within my bedroom for a few minutes then gently massage the legs and feet before getting into bed.
My previous GP once told me to elevate my legs above my head so when I am able to physically do it, I stretch my legs upwards towards the ceiling whilst lying down. It does help get rid of the sensations but with my sciatica it’s not always possible.
I have this in the feet told it is part of my symptoms also in the lower arm and hand. However, would get this checked out.
I did, my legs were awful. I now take pregabalin which has worked wonders for me.
Are you stressed or suffer with headaches/migraines? When seen by the neurologist for my tingles and pins needles they diagnosed me with migraines and said it is supposedly common with migraine sufferers. Im not saying thats the case for you of course. Just my experience with unexplained tingles
As others have said , it sounds like Restless Legs / Peripheral neuropathy. Common with Fibro , but it can also happen post menopause as your vitamin levels and hormones change.
It's worth contacting the GP for a phone chat and asking them to arrange blood tests via the nurse including Full Blood Count , Vitamin B 12 , Folates , Vitamin D and Magnesium. You have the right to request these tests if you have not had them for some time , gave a chronic condition which is linked to causing low nutrients , and you are having any or many new neuro symptoms , like peripheral neuropathy , numbness , RLS , migraines.
Get copies of your results . They will say normal if the tests are low or borderline in a phone call but seeing the level will help you understand if you might need to increase certain supplements or certain types of food in your diet.
If you are deficient in B 12 you should be offered injections , if deficient in Folates or Vitamin D you should receive supplements.
After your blood tests are done , if you don't already take supplements , taking a combined vitamin and mineral , plus an additional B complex and Vitamin D with Magnesium can help peripheral neuropathy a lot. Drinking more water through the day also helps.
Raising your feet and lower legs on pillows at night can reduce the RLS and spasms. Using a Magnesium lotion or spray on your legs and arms can also reduce tingling after a few weeks. Sometimes soaking feet and ankles in an epsom salt bath before bed also helps.
If you can cope with touch , using a touch of the fingers or brushing with a soft fabric from the toes to the knees can improve the circulation in the lower legs and reduce spasms. Sometimes compression socks or tights worn in the day can also improve circulation and reduce the Neuropathy.
Keeping your legs up between 60-90 degrees to the hips ( basically higher than a little footstool) during the day when you sit also improves circulation and reduces night neuropathy.
Rotating your ankles gently and pointing toe exercises off and on a few times a day can also help.
Check your B12 levels. Karen
