Can Fibro cause loss of sensation?

Hi,

I am new here. My identical twin sister was told she probably has fibromyalgia a few days ago. I have been suffering for the last few months with some health problems of my own that have not been diagnosed and so far have no medical cause. And, I am now wondering if I also have fibromyalgia. But, I am not sure.

One of my main issues is that I frequently lose partial sensation in my body. I have been having issues with my neck and shoulders and they are partially numb all of the time. But, the rest of my body can lose partial sensation at random times. Sometimes it is just my feet and lower legs, sometimes its also my hands and arms. At its worst it can be my entire body losing sensation. Even stranger still, sometimes I lose sensation in the left or right half of my body, including my tongue. (Yes, one half of my tongue will lose partial sensation and the other half will remain normal. It is an extremely bizarre and uncomfortable feeling.)

Does anyone know if fibromyalgia can cause symptoms like this? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Oh no ! Bless you. That sounds really scary for you.

Understanding that everyone is different i can only tell you about me personally.

I get pins and needles, and numbness in finger tips. My feet "go to sleep" eaisily, but nothing lasting or as full on as what you are experiencing.

I hope you get to the botom of it quickly and can find some relief.

Hi Twin4life

Sorry to hear you’re going through this at present. I have this comes in waves it can be left shoulder right jaw and right leg foot and toes opposite sides, after walking with stick my whole arm and hand goes numb and feels like too heavy to lift up GP confirmed it Fibro and affects me at random daily worse since having Covid recently.

No supplements have helped do you suffer with cold hands and feet? I also have raynards

🙏

Hi, it's very important that you see your gp about this as they can then start to rule out other things that can cause this. I understand how weird it feels as I get it somewhere most days.once my right arm was numb for 2 weeks then suddenly was ok again. I was also diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy and take medication for this.

Hello 👋. Sorry to hear you have this problem right now. However

I too have problems with my arms and legs and hands . I saw a doctor in London who Specialis in fibromyalgia and he did tests which shown how my Nerves reacted when a small Electrical Current went through them. I have many marks on my arms where I have burnt myself badly while cooking and not known till much later in the day or days later there is a big delay. . Some of the burns 🔥do not hurt me at all.

They told me it was part of fibromyalgia and said it was unlikely to get any better . I lived with these symptoms for many years . I felt ouneasy about being told this and went to see a a different consultant who said it could be a number of things and didn't complete any more tests due to some result came back normal?? Which was crazy.

The Professor I saw in London said no more could be done for the numbness in my arms or legs or hands. For many years I have taken to rub my muscles to help the blood flow.

The best advise I could give you is ask your GP to to do tests on your arms and leg and perhaps your brain 🧠 if he feels it could be linked to neurology and arrange some checks to confirm these symptoms . Never put symptoms like this down to an current conditions with out getting it check out .

Your body is telling you there is something wrong and therefore get some answers do not leave anything which is linked to numbness as there are many things this could be. 🤔. Once you got started with the tests at least you will feel more comfortable in understanding the reasons behind this weird Symptom.

Always get symptoms check out because we are all different individuals you need to know what it means to you and your body and if any treatment is available to support you.

I might have been able to get some help with my numbness if I had looked into it sooner. I had fibromyalgia about 8 years before I had this check out and many burns 🔥 later.

I didn't do any research self-help process until my arms were Completely numb no feeling in them at all. However this has improved with rubbing my muscles with warn oils to keep blood flow and movements.. I now do exercises linked to my arms and legs 🦵 to support my muscles and nerves. Hope this helps you. 🙏 take care and look for Answers from you GP and tests. They may look to give you physio. Good luck and big hug xxx
