I have FM/CFS and have an issue with itching on my back, especially one spot that's extremely bothersome. There are no spots, no redness, and you can't see anything. No matter what I do, nothing helps. I'd like to know if others with FM suffer from itching and what they do to relieve it.

As far as as I know there's nothing much we can do but use a back scratcher as we get older our skin gets very dry and it is difficult to moisturise our back unless you are lucky enough to have someone do that for you everyday which would be very helpfull I also suffer from this issue so just i have use the infamous back scratcher or the edge of a door frame rather like a bear using a tree trunk to scratch his back🐻😁👍
Thank you for your reply. I use a back scratcher as well (and once in awhile the door frame too, lol), but always find that it feels even worse afterwards, but sometimes I just want a bit of relief. I'll have to see if I can get some of the cream that people mentioned before - E45 or Eurax cream.
I use a soft exfoliating loofah which has handles at each end to use easily on your back. I put some E45 cream on it and massage it in with the loofa (pulling left to right across my back) which seems to help. You can buy the loofa online or in chemists. Hope that helps x
Hi I have the same problem at the top of my back it started off a small patch but unfortunately over many years has got bigger. I use e45 wash cream I also have e45 cream and eurax cream. I try not to scratch which is desperately hard not to do because once I start with a back scratcher I feel like I just want to literally rip my skin off. I try not to get over heated because that makes it worse I'm walking a fine line between keeping my back cool and my arthritis warm.
I have the same problem on different areas of my body. I sometimes look to see if something is on my skin as it often feels like a critter walking about as well as the itchy patches. Drives me crackers.
Sometimes other areas of my bodies are itchy, but my back is the worst. And sometimes I get a feeling like there's a critter on my feet, but there isn't. I believe that's our nerves firing.
I also suffer with itching, wakes me up at night. I find germolene helps. You can get a thing called back bliss on Amazon that’s specifically made for creaming your back.
Hi I have had a terrible time with this itching and bruising I have tried every cream and lotions got in touch with my GP and getting a lot of blood test done as he thinks my iron levels could be low he has put me on iron medicine but not to take it until I have had the blood test, I have the itching all over and as you said on my back it's driving me mad so I am hoping it's my iron levels and I can get some relief with the iron medication ,I will keep you in touch with the results this Fibromyalgia is a terrible thing I know how you feel try and keep well regards.
Thank you for your reply. Anytime I've had blood work done, it always come back okay. With FM, I find it hard to have anything show up on any of the tests I get - they're always clear, leading to no diagnosis, or reason why I'm feeling a certain way. It's SO frustrating!! I hope you have better luck with your results!
Hi All,I don't suffer with this but my husband does and he uses antihistamines which really help.
Yes I know it's another drug that can have its side effects but wanted to mention it just in case it helps you.
Healing hugs to all 💛
I thought I was the only one who experiences this! I can totally relate to your post. I find lotion tends to calm it, though it hasn’t prevented it from flaring. Hope you can find just the right one to relieve you of that intense need to scratch.
Thank you. I guess that's once reason I posted this question because I wanted to know if others suffered with the same problem too. So, isn't it good to know we're not alone, even if that doesn't take the itch away. I'll see if I can try some of the creams that were suggested.
Just a suggestion. The type of material you wear next to the skin, or even one layer outside a vest may be irritating. Having said that, I got flea bites from going in the loft in late summer. They lasted for weeks and even one on my shoulder blade that healed has gone on itching and I have gone on scratching and making it bleed! If you haven't tried antihistamine cream, that may help. Calamine? I react to wool and some people react to washing powder. It is perhaps trial and error and like you are doing now, asking around may eventually resolve this. Good luck!
yes I have had itching for 5 years on my scalp and back
I thought it was Notalgia Parasthetica which is it rated nerves on the back from neck nerve irritation
I added in Claritin and ice packs and applied lanacaibe to certain sits on my back
My GP prescribed a cortisone lotion for my scalp twice a week
I find over exertion and stress causes worsening
I try not to over exercise my neck muscles
It gets better and comes back
I also bought gold bond for an ant itch cream which works
Lyrica and gababentin also works for neuropathy
Good luck !!!
Hi I suffer with itchy skin all over my body at different times, one day it's my arms another my legs, then my back and so on. My GP prescribed Dermol Cream to use as a soap substitute, which works well, I still get itching at times but no where near as much as before. I know it can be so annoying when it happens.
Thank you for your reply. I haven't heard of Dermol Cream before, but will look into it. Yes. it's very annoying!
