I have suffered with fibromyalgia for many years and the pain ha got worse over the years. A new GP at my medical practice who I managed to see has prescribed Buprenorphine patches along with Gabapentin. Has anyone else used this medication for pain relief and has it helped

Buprenorphine Patch and Gabapentin
Thank you Ajay575
I was on them several years ago, unfortunately they didn't help me much painwise and left me like a zombie.
I tried these patches and found them much more convenient than having to take the pain meds I was on. I didn't have any side effects after the first 3 days but unfortunately developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive and my skin broke out into very painful blisters. I have had this sort of problems in the past so had to accept it wasn't going to go away so had to stop them. I certainly think it would be worth you trying them especially as this doctor seems prepared to try and help you. Good luck whatever you decide.x
My husband was on these patches and had same reaction (terrible itch when removed) doc gave him antihistame nasal spray to spray on his skin before and after taking patch on or off this worked doc doesn't know why but it does nasal spray can be bought over the counter and is constantly advertised on TV so easily obtainable husband got it on his prescription hope this info is of help to you good luck
Rose wine. Thank you for your kind response and I am sorry you developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive and had to stop using the patches. Unfortunately the GP is a locum at the practice so I am not sure how long he will be there for.
Yes I use both of them on 10mg patches & 600mg gabapentin twice a day for about 2 years now & I do fine they both help with the pain
Hi, yes I have used these patches along with Gabapentin for some time now and find that they can be very helpful.
Blackphoenix thank you
Hi Dianne - in studies gabapentin is shown to be quite good for some kinds of pain, but actually there's hardly any proof that it helps fibro pain. So if it doesn't help, don't be surprised and if you want to keep to the med route you could ask to try other meds like pregabalin or amitriptyline, which have more evidence for fibro pain.
