Water intake and electrolytes

Not sure where this question should go! How much water is safe to drink per day before you add electrolytes to it. I drink a min. 4 litres per day and a min of 2 coffees per day, and have a friend who strongly recommends I add an electrolyte to the water. I have fibro and RA and have chosen this as my water intake. Help a girl out!

Not sure that you will get an answer from this page - as your question has no relevance to fibromyalgia

Obviously I'm no expert but your intake does seem excessive. In the UK it's the 8 glass rule unless you're exercising and sweating it out. Quick Google search should give you your answer, also how too much can be quite dangerous. You may find this helpful

That's too much water. You can actually dilute the salt in your blood and die if you drink too much. 2L average a day or 3 max really. Have no idea about electrolytes! Xx

Why do you drink that much? I'd be weeing so much I wouldn't be able to cope.

Do you space out your intake over the day, or do you binge on water? It might be an idea to chat to your doc about it, especially if you are in a sit down job.

If you are working outdoors, you would need it almost certainly as a strenuous job will make you need more fluid. As the summer arrives you would need a little more to replace perspiration, and to avoid dehydration.

2 litres water is , to my mind, a little excessive, although the coffee would help your body process it through.

An excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes mellitus, so please have a chat with your doc, before changing anything,

Cheers, Midori
