I don't think water retention is caused by fibro ... But if could be caused by one if any of the meds you are taking .... Either way If you haven't I would Definately go to see our GP.. You might have something else that needs treating or if its caused by a med you are on then your GP could offer an alternative

Fibro does that to us at times and it just seems like a never ending stream of problems, but there are a lot of meds to try so eventually you will get the best combination for you...

Hi Stoker,

Given your young age, this is probably 'dependent oedema' caused by slowing down of the circulation in the lower leg. You don't say if you are overweight, but if you are, this will make it worse. Because we fibromites don't move around enough due to pain, the circulation in the legs becomes very sluggish and swelling occurs.

Make sure that when sitting down you always keep your legs up.. I never sit if I can help it - if I'm not on my feet, I lie down on the sofa!

Try to rotate your ankles, and gently raise your legs up and down alternately. If possible, take a couple of ten minute walks each day - more if you can manage it. This will help your circulation.

If after 3 days there is no improvement, you will need to see your GP to make sure there is no underlying problem.

I hope this helps you, and that you feel better soon.

Hello Stoker. I take fennel for water retention. You can get all sorts of herbal teas in most supermarkets and especially in health food shops. I actually grow it in the garden and make my own infusions but the tea bags work well. Nettle tea also is good for fluid retention. If you are not sure about taking something like this you can ask your GP first.
