Face rash- caused by the sun?

Not sure how to add pics to this site from my iPod. I have a hive like rash on my face. It's currently making my face feel tight and a little itchy. Can't put anything on it as it stings, except for water.

I spent the day outside yesterday, in the glorious sun. I used factor 50 sun screen. I also wore a hat and sunglasses. Any ideas?

Hi ladytelita

I am so sorry to read that you have been caught quite badly by the sun, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to your issue.

I have pasted you a BBC link which looks at many of the sun creams failing in tests to stop harmful rays, so I hope that you find this useful:

It may help if you have an after sun cream? My wife always uses one of these as she is blonde and catches the sun very easily.

All my hopes and dreams for you

PS. I was just wondering if you have ever been tested for lupus?

I have put a link above, it came to mind after reading another question today?

Hi Ken, thanks for your response. I checked for the suncream and it isn't one of the terrible ones, thankfully. I have also used it previously with no effect so doubt it's an allergic reaction.

I was tested for Lupus about 10 years ago and the tests came back negative thankfully. I know these can change but hoping that's not the case. I suspect an allergy to the sun! Apparently, my mothers dad suffered with it so badly that he couldn't expose his skin to the sun at all when it was strong. They put it down to the work he did, but maybe it wasn't that at all.

If the rash is still there tomorrow, I'll ring the GP.

Good luck with that, and I genuinely hope that you start to feel better soon.

Take care

I wonder if it could be a reaction to the medication when you go out in the sun.

It's possible if it's the Nortriptyline as I would have been on a low dose of it back then.

Sounds like you have become intolerant to the sun - I am sensitive to the sun too and ended up with really itchy wrists and hands from being outside on Saturday, it was driving me nuts. I take antihistamine and find keeping the area cool with water helps. All you can do is cover up really I have not come up with anything that stops it altogether. Hugs x

Hi Mistyang, the GP last year gave me some cream which cleared it up so quickly. Just rung them so will see what they say today.

Would you kindly let me know what they give you if they prescribed it again please x

I've had two things prescribed this time. Unfortunately they're not the same as the previous stuff and since the surgery refused to dispense them despite the chemist being shut, I have had to wait until this morning at 9am.

The receptionist gave me such a look when I said I couldn't get to my car last night because it was up a steep hill (she doesn't know about my condition).

Once I've used it I'll let you know if it works. Right now, I just look like someones bad dream with my face feeling like it's falling off.

Sounds like a reaction from sun

screen or maybe a medication

Reaction. If you have aloe or

even cortisone cream you could

Try that. If it gets worse call the

Doc. Good luck xxxox
