Has anyone faced this dilemma? I have so far had no discussion with GP just refferals to the dementia team. So far, in view of the demands of COVID which I had in December and a stay in hospital with a U.T.I, and the after effects I have done nothing but cancel the dementia appointments. Anyone had experience of this?
I had fibromyalgia diagnosed by a Harley Street consultants over 40 years ago!
Any thoughts welcome.
Dorothy.

You really need to talk to the dementia team and have them carry out the assessment. Just like any other speciality there is nuance to the assessment and GPs may suspect it given age, presentation and background but they still need to refer to the people that have the expertise and time to assess.
fibro fog tends to be forgetting where your car keys are whereas dementia can be forgetting what your car keys are for as a simple example. But there are different types and stages. It is really in the realms of a health professional rather than an online forum unfortunately.
I agree with Desquinn I would see the dementia team, sometimes we put things off but I think that s the team to speak too and get some answers, you sound like you’ve been threw the mill with the dreaded Covid them a UTI after, take care of yourself xx
Hi I've had fibro since I was 24 I'm 56 now. It was diagnosed by a private consultant as I had private insurance at the time luckily. My memory became so bad I really thought I had dementia. I asked my fibro consultant and he explained how it wasn't, but why it happened. He said your body gets to the point it can't cope with the pain so it pinches a bit of the brain area next to pain to cope. This happens to be the cognitive area. The cognitive area is then reduced and can't work as well, and so our memory loss happens.
This is what my consultant told me. Hope it helps.
That's a good way to explain what happens and why we have cognitive issues. I was worried that I had dementia a few years ago but my GP ruled it out. It's no fun for sure
Hi Dorothy, I haven't had this experience personally but my sister has. She has Ms and the same thing happened with her. It left her and the family confused and concerned about what was going on. She too has not had a conversation with the doctor neither has her husband who is her carer.
It's total lack of communication. It's a horrible thing to happen and you may want to make an appointment with your doctor to find out why you keep getting these referrals. I wish you all the best with this situation Dorothy. Take care 🤗
