IBS & burning stomach

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have fibro and IBS. I’m currently in an IBS flare and have got stomach burning, nausea, dizziness etc alongside the cramps, gurgling and upset bowel habits. Does anyone else have the same issues with this nightmare condition? It’s nice to know you’re not alone sometimes.

Gentle hugs,

Roo xx

Hi Roo: yep, I used to until I eliminated all food triggers, like I explained here ;-) healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

I control mine mainly by avoiding known food triggers - which definitely helps

Yes I'm having the same issue at the moment but through past experience I know that it will pass soon. Fibromyalgia is a horrible condition, one that as a very fit active man thought that I'd never get. My wife is very supportive, family and friends are a big help.Take care

in reply toSugref

Tha k you for your reply. Let’s hope we both get some relief soon.

Yes, I too get these symptoms most of the time TBH.I'm sorry I cannot give you any advice but I suppose they are all a part of this condition.

I feel like I need to eat to stop the burning but it just gives me indigestion and most days I feel so sick.

Hope somebody can give you tips for relief.

Take care.

Hi, I get the burning, I was diagnosed with IBS years ago, I suppose I’m lucky really as I don’t get it as bad nowadays, but when I’m in a flare like now, it’s driving me mad, are you on any medication? I had to phone my GP last week as I couldn’t bare it, he has increased my duloxetine, I do seem a bit better but still hurting and burning all over.I would go back to your GP if I was you, no cure but some meds do help. Sending you gentle hugs 🤗x

in reply toBuildashed

Thanks for your reply. I’m on Mebeverine and Buscopan. They help but don’t get rid of it completely. In my experience, the GP is a bit limited. I’ve been on low dose anti-depressants too (Amitryptiline), they didn’t help at all but gave me bad headaches. It’s a bit of a nightmare isn’t it?! X

I also have IBS🙈 it’s such a horrible situation when you have a flare up never mind when you don’t.The disgusting flatulence that would empty a stadium, the bloating, the gurgling pain/cramps, nausea and general sick feeling is just awful.

Until you actually go through this no one understands how debilitating it is.

I was recommended to have a food allergy test done years ago to find out what triggers I have by my hospital consultant but my GP wouldn’t refer me (waste of resources) was his answer.

He suggested tracking my food myself to see when I had a flare.

That didn’t work so I paid private and did actually get some results that I did eliminate from my diet

Hi that’s exactly what I’m going through at the moment, very very windy, embarrassing, and the smell, good job I can’t go out and have a loving understanding husband. It’s the burning feeling omg on top off everything else 😫 I have tried eliminating food, but got to the stage of hardly eating, then lost loads of weight then more stress because of losing weight. It’s just one vicious circle. Love your name by the way. X

Oh god the wind!! Thinking of changing my name to "you b****y stink" that's all I hear lol. I have to laugh about it or I would cry. My poor hubby

Hi, in agreement with a lot of the comments above. I suffered terribly from my 20,s (30 years ago) All doctors offered me were meds, which helped a little, but a lot of pain, sick, dizzy etc. Lost weight and impacted my life so much. After lots of research, testing and eliminating many different foods have discovered certainly in some cases this can almost disappear entirely. The problem can be purely food and how it reacts with your body. I am now completely dairy free, gluten free, no fats, very little sugar and i have my life back, as far as ibs in concerned anyway. Yes its a very difficult diet to follow, expensive, cant eat out etc but to eradicate all that pain and suffering so worth trying. Good luck with your journey x

Thank you for your reply. I’m working on it x

Oh yes, unfortunately me too. I have fibromyalgia and also suffering bad IBS.. apparently I’ve read that’s quite common if you have fibromyalgia.

Yes, I get IBS, fluctuate from diarrhoea to constipation, cramps are very painful. Also have diverticulitis which is being investigated. I haven’t done anything with diet yet, wondered if I could get a referral to a dietitian, I’m vegetarian so lots of foods I eat could irritate mt condition. Finding fibromyalgia exhaustion a real problem. You are not alone, Roo. X

Thanks for your reply Captaincat. Let’s hope we both get some relief soon x

Hi Roo

Firstly, I'm so sorry that you are faced with a flare right now. I hope you are feeling more human real soon.

I've had IBS for many years and battled to find anything that would help, other than shutting myself away and pretty much giving up leading a 'normal' and social life.

A couple of years ago I was introduced to Fodmap. It is pretty full on and you have to restrict quite a few things from your diet for a while, but it worked for me. It was like a reset to my gut. It doesn't remove or cure IBS, but it does allow me to live a few months without the constant cramping, sweating, dizziness and other associated misery.

I hope you feel better soon.

Take care - Michelle x

Can I ask whether you had assistance from anyone like a dietitian to do the low FODMAP diet? I'm considering doing it but I'm worried I'm going to get malnourished because I've already lost so much weight because of not being able to eat properly due to pain.

in reply toTormentedWriter

Thank you Michelle. I have tried low FODMAPs but a lot of the foods they say are good are triggers for me. I really need to try again. X

Frequently. My Doctor recommended Monash University Low Fodmaps website. It does help. My daughter in law has ME and recommended Buscopan (She had a very good dietician). I don't take it that often but when I do it makes a huge difference. Talk to your Doctor's Practice about it. Haven't seen what age you are so of course anyone who has a baby roo in her pouch needs to be especially careful all the way through that. You can buy it over the counter so a Chemist will also give advice. It can make you a bit tired. Google 'Chinese Clock' to and that will tell you something about the time of day when your internal body organs are most engaged in digestion. I sometimes take it in the night when I wake up with a lot of discomfort and it can often help. A good acupuncturist trained in the Five elements could be very helpful too. Hope things improve for you soon.

in reply toKimiJay

Thank you so much for your informative reply KimiJay. I have tried acupuncture and am currently using Buscopan. I’m going to start looking closer at my diet. Thanks again!

I also suffer from this and also divaticulitus been really bad this week feeling like I have a hamster chewing at my insides on top of that I'm having back and hop problems and on top of all that I would have a better chance winning the lottery than getting a appointment at my doctors hope you will be feeling better soon xx

in reply toBirds

Thank you so much Birds! I hope that you’re feeling a bit better now. It is impossible to see a GP at the moment. Look after yourself xx

Hi, you're absolutely not on your own, I'm on the same flare up of ibs. I got diagnosed with ibs many years ago but seem to grow out of it, but since I've been diagnosed with fm everything has come back, I'm really struggling as I've not long been diagnosed. It really is horrible. Good luck.

in reply tomyspace76

Thank you for your reply myspace76. I’m the same; had these problems in my 20s but they eased off until fibro took hold. What a nightmare it all is

Yes me to. I find that when my IBS is really bad and like you say feels like it's burning - I use Silicolgel - it calms things down for me and now I am down to using it just once a week.

I really hope you feel better soon

in reply toKitten-whiskers

Thank you kitten-whiskers. I think I’ve tried Silicolgel before (like wallpaper paste?). I’ve just bought some Enterosgel, which is similar. Let’s see how that goes

I'm just catching up as I was away for a week looking after grandchildren. I've had so many symptoms over the years. I've had to eliminate dairy, egg, gluten, soya & mustard from my diet to help with the IBS plus I take acidophilus daily which made a huge difference. Was diagnosed with diverticulosis last year also. I've had the dizziness on/off for over 10 years. I have to say that Amitriptyline & Sertraline have certainly helped & although I still get bad days, I'm in a better place now than 9 months ago, less pain & stiffness & definitely better at sleeping too.
