I am sure that the IBS I already have is sensitive to dairy. I have painlessly swapped butter, milk, cheese, yogurts and mayo to dairy free.
But we had a meal at my mums last night and I went into a frenzy at the cheeseboard, butter and crackers. I love cheese! Smelly, with fruit, mature or roulade. Any! Today I've been unable to eat and look heavily pregnant. Like a dork I forgot 😩
Had mebeverine as usual and some peppermint oil tablets I swear by.
Haven't eaten dairy for years but still have preggy belly, always seems to 'grow' as the day goes on so by bedtime I'm usually about 7 months!😳 IBS is an absolute joy isn't it?!😬🥴
I'm good with dairy; It's a mild-ish gluten sensitivity for me, so anything in breadcrumbs is out, cakes, pies and biscuits and most breads. I can manage a little sourdough, but not a lot.
I have a lot of trouble with dairy, I cannot even have milk in my tea, so I now drink it black. Wheat bothers me sometimes, I know when to stop because it gives me hiccups. I found peppermint capsules help a lot and drinking ginger ale.
Have you though about using lactose free milk in your tea? There is also lactase enzyme tablets. I chew one after anything dairy. There is also lactase enzyme drops, you put a few drops into a jug of milk, leave overnight and it becomes lactose free. It is available at health shops. I carry Milkaid tablets with me, so if I visit anyone, or go to a cafe I can have cows milk or cheese etc, without bloating.
Hi all and merry Christmas. Yes, I have a dairy and fructose intolerance. It triggers quite a severe bout of IBS. I have substitutes for most dairy products and have to take Vit C tabs every day. Frustrating, but just another limitation on every day life.
I do think it's 'just' our individual IBS, independently of fibro, but somehow also connected. O.o Over the decades (originally without fibro), probly by finding my diet, my dairy tolerance is one of the few things that has improved. Starting off with only dairy without sugar, but no milk itself, and having to separate dairy from veg(soy)-protein- as well as from carb-based meals (Hay diet), I now fare pretty well with it, but usually keep it down one dairy meal per day. I seem to tolerate sheep and goat better than cow. But I try to keep all this down anyway (ethics), only buy it when it's expiring, and organic, like everything.Gluten-free for 2 months did nothing, but I'm still keeping it reduced.
My hyperacid ('dry') stomach burns madly after sourdough, peppermint, ginger, most essential oils, everything sour, hot, onion-like etc., but a complex herbal remedy (Gastritol) is without peppermint.
The latest thing I've discovered are sour gherkins, which I love - I'd hoped one'd be OK, but no... I had severe problems with the food in the rheum. clinic, altho they did their best. But they also offered stuff which I wasn't sure of and tried all the same, the main problems turned out to be celery and now I guess it was probably the sour gherkins too. Left them off for a week and have no problems afterwards any more.
For IBSD, psyllium with little water helps me a lot; for IBSC you take it with a lot of water.
