Hi all, Just a quick question, Does anyone with Fibro suffer with pain in jaw which results in pain in chest. goes after around 5 minutes. My dentist says its not my teeth although my jaw is slightly out. This has happened a few times now. The pain sometimes goes from left side of bottom jaw right to the right side then up to my right eye. But also i get pain in chest at same time. It seems to ease after 5 minutes al so. I have had diagnosed fibromyalgia since june 2017 but this is new to me. Just putting it out their to see if anyone else gets same.

Jaw pain with Fibromyalgia
Have you spoken to a doctor about this to rule out cardiac causes?
Hi there, not something I have experienced with my fibro. Never heard anyone else mention it either to be honest. Maybe you need another chat with your GP. I hope you find out what is going on soon.

Hi Michael, I use to suffer really bad with jaw pain, grind and fracture my teeth . I had my jaw re- aligned with Bowen Technique, it's really good for fibro pain . I'm sure they'll be a practitioner near you.
Hallo, I wanted to say thank you for your advice. Yesterday I had my first Bowen Technique session and it went well. I didn’t even know it existed before I read your post . Thank you !
I had bad grinding teeth too with jaw pain and had my jaw realigned. I wear a hard retainer at night now and pain much less. I also get "chest wall pain". Very scary with trips to hospital. Always been ok but need to check. So yes to your question but you must always check out chest pain immediately. Hospital have always told me I was good to check.Take care

Goodmorning, I do suffer from the same symptom, mainly because I am grinding my teeth all the time for the pain, especially at night. A bite didn’t help either. I am so sorry to hear of your pain. LuciA
I have similar symptoms, but they last a lot longer than 5 mins. Was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia with chest pain being Costochondritis. They don't always happen at same time, but the costo for me seems to be seriously linked to stress. I'm also a terrible teeth grinder/clencher. Bite guard didn't help as I didn't get help until too late and actually lost my top row of teeth. I now wear a false plate of teeth, sadly. Although when I'm clenching bad or grinding (usually when I'm in a lot of pain), I can just remove my plate. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to approach a doctor as you have already had the all-clear from dental to say it's not that issue. There are many strategies, from exercises to medication and for some even surgery if required. But either way, it needs to be documented.
I wish you all the luck. Face and jaw pain is no joke, and chest pain is beyond scary even when you are aware of what is causing it. Hopefully, you can let us know what happens.

I suffer with clicking jaw everyday I wake up its horrendous its like my jaw is in cramp them when I move it, it clicks really bad. Sometimes it's that stiff it hurts when clicks this carry on alday, my ears feel like they are full of water & my sinuses suffer bad when I talk I feel like I carnt get my breath or choke. It travels into my chest which feels like a chest infection only my chest goes on & off. This is definitely fibromayalgia connected I get pains n aches in my top arm to my neck which panics me. Hope this helps
Thank you for all your kind replys. I will book an appointment with my GP (when i can get one). I do wear a bottom mouth guard at night as i grind my teeth during night. As soon as i have seen doctor i will let yo uall no how i get on. Thank you again and all take care.
Yesterday the pain in my whole face was so bad I cried. It started in my jaw but spread rapidly all over, it lasted about 5 or 6 minutes. It left me with a belting headache even though I had taken a Diclofenac!!!! I have never had it that bad before it usually just stays in my jaw and cheek bones but I felt like my eyes would fall out!!I get jaw pain daily and like you my dentist gave me the all clear.
Went the dentist twice with this and nothing to do with mouth/teeth. Doc said its TMJ it's absolute pain in the arse, facial pain got worse and they are now saying it's neuralgia. Dot think anyone has a clue really, I'm awaiting a referral for my jaw.
Hi, omg thank you for highlighting this, I thought I was on my own. Mine starts in my right jaw then I get chest pains. I don't have problems with my teeth. They dentist has checked it, I thought I was having a heart attack the first time it happened, I've had all the heart tests you can get and nothing came back, I do have heart valves reflux but only mild but that not the corse of it,I'm stuck as what it could be because it's really frightening when it comes, I've been diagnosed with Fybromialgia for 12 years now and this has only happened recently, Let's hope there is an answer out there for what it is, 😊
……… go to the EMERGENCY ROOM! It sounds like A CARDIAC ISSUE! Pain from (L) arm, shoulder, neck or jaw ! NEXT TIME………… GO STRAIGHT TO THE ER!!!
Hi there Michael, yes this is what I also get.. from chest pain which is where my main area of chronic pain is (central & severe) which then radiates into jaw and into my shoulders and arms more so on my left side but it doesn't go after 5 minutes it seems to stay anywhere from hours to days but it does radiate often from one part to another. So scary when it happens as it does mimick heart attacks I've been in and out of hopsital I couldn't even say how many times to always be told its not heart related bloods always fine etc but the pains are deliberating.
I also diagnosed with fibromyalgia since 2019 I didn't suffer so badly until last year 2020 and this year the pains are even in my legs.
Like others have said rule out cardiac issues…..this helps me with pain in the sternomastiod and chest pain
Hi michaelf43
It could be Temporomandibular joint dysfunction, which is really uncomfortable. I had it before my Fibro diagnosis and was given some really easy exercises to do. The execises strengthen the muscles around the joints. They can be found online and work best if you do them several times a day when the pain is at it's worst.
I still use them to relieve tightness in my jaw - although now it's mostly stress related muscle tension. But they help so ...
Good luck

I have FM and for some years I have gotten intermittent pain in my jaw/throat/upper middle chest which feels a bit like a muscle cramp or spasm and seems to be relieved most of the time by passively arching my neck and upper chest, for example by putting a cushion under my mid back and relaxing my upper back and neck to hang down a little. I have noticed in the past that I have been forcefully pushing something forward with my right hand and arm when it has started ( eg like trying to drive a leather punch through some very tough leather). It is very painful, and at times I have worried that it is cardiac in origin, but it only lasts a few minutes and goes away totally, so good luck trying to get a GP to engage and think about it. Any cardiac investigations I have had over the years have been normal except for moderately high blood pressure. If you're getting this sort of pain it would be wise to at least have heart problems ruled out so do raise it with your GP.
I don't know anyone with angina, but I have heard it is painful, and have wondered if that's what it is, but don't believe angina can be relieved with a stretch.
Anyway, the GP may not be able to tell you what it is, but can help to rule out things it isn't.
I'm sure we would all love to know what your GP thinks ......
I have TMJD, jaw joint disfunction which causes pain all over jaw/teeth/face, especially cheek muscles. My osteopath said that my tight jaw muscles affect my shoulder muscles too.
As many have implied and I've suggested on a thread about the connection between costochondritis, IBS and anxiety, your connection might be a direct one with the tense jaw muscles influencing the chest muscles directly, or the other way round, or indirectly via anxiety, or anxiety influencing both... So relaxation plus the exercise & physio suggestions above (lots of youtube) might help, otherwise a good gentle physio, e.g. osteopath...
I have experienced something similar a few times. A pain that starts in the jaw, goes into my throat and then chest. The pain was excruciating and very scary. It usually happens for only five to ten minutes but the first time lasted over half an hour. The first time it happened I phoned 111 and they recommended going to the hospital. Heart checks were fine. It’s always good to eliminate heart issues but I suspect in my case it is muscle spasm.
Hi all, Hope you are all well as can be. I finally got a drs appointment . My dr is referring me to the Cardiology so i can be checked by them. At moment she is treating it as Angina. i have been given a spray to use under tongue when it comes on again. Been adviced to go hospital if lasts longer than 10 minutes. When i have seen the Cardiology i will let you all no. but She does not believe it is to do with my fibro. Thank you for all your kind messages.
I hope everything goes well for you. Take care.
