Weighted blanket

Hi don’t post often but my daughter has brought me a weighted blanket and I just wanted to share how good I have found it. My muscle pain is down and my sleep quality is up. She got it from Liddles £30 for me worth every penny. It sort of squished the pain out . Have a good day 👍

Me too, I've been using one for about a week now and I think it does help with my restless legs.

As for sleep think I may be sleeping a bit better and don't think I'm wakening up quite as often as before.

I always shied away from them as worried about overheating but so far it's been absolutely fine.🤞

That's what I was wondering. I have problems with temperature regulation too.

My temperature control is totally wonky 🥵 really didn't think I'd cope with a weighted blanket, nighttime probably being the worst. Between RLS & too hot then cold, you know it .... but now I would say definitely give it a try. I started off just covering my legs but now I'm using it as full coverage 👌

Thanks for your reply. I will look into buying one.

I love mine, been using them for about 2 1/2 years now - and go nowhere without them.

Hi Olivia, I've had a weighted blanket for a couple of years but haven't used it much. I don't really know how best to use it. Do you put it on your bed at night? If so, under or over the duvet? I fidget alot turning over etc. I find it difficult to do this with the blanket holding down my legs. Any advice on the best way to use it? I've heard lots of people do find relief from them, I'd love to be one of them. 😊

Hi I have mine on the top of my duvet I find the weight itself stops me moving. I think the weight is supposed to make you feel secure . I have mine on the bed all the time although my daughter only has hers over her legs. You would think it would be hot but I haven’t noticed any difference. Hope you get to feel the benefits I definitely have Olivia

I'm glad its helping you. I have thought about getting one but wondered if I would get too hot. Are these weighted blankets heavy, will they make me too hot? I sleep really warm (menopause) and don't use a duvet just the cover.

I put off getting one for that reason too but I've been using mine for a week and it's actually been fine. I put mine in a duvet cover and have it under the duvet on the bed.

Hi yes they are very heavy. I was very surprised and didn’t think I would like it at all. I don’t find it too hot and I used to be quilt off quilt on I find I don’t wake as much as I did . If you do get one don’t carry it home I think mine is about 20lb a bit of a workout 😳

Hi Olivia, I saw the weighted blankets addvertised at Lidl and bought one for my wife who was suffering Bad Fibromyalgia as told at her hospital appoitment in 2017. She also suffered from Diabetes 1 (for 40 yrs) Diabetic Retinopathy, Diabetic Neurology, Chronic Kidney Diseas, Epilepsy, restless leg syndrome and Maculopathy. I do wish we had known about a weighted blanket so many years ago as it was so good at releiving the muscle pain and assisting her sleep. She started sleeping all night with the weighted blanket. Unfortunately I had to take her to hospital with 10% kidney function 12 days ago and couild not visit due to coronavirus and she passed away32 hrs ago.

I have just read that some people find them heavy. Yes they are and my wife could never carry, lift or put it in position though she said it was wonderful.

Hi sorry to hear about your wife. At the moment I am at the hospital near every day to visit my husband who had a stroke end of January. I think the blanket has helped me get good sleep that has helped me keep going. My daughter found the blanket when looking in to help for Autism . I was actually surprised when I felt the weight that I could get on with it on top of me but from day one I was hooked. I would imagine that getting into hospital to visit your wife was a struggle. When my husband went in I was allowed to visit for the first 2 days then nothing . After our daughters complaining we got to visit 2 half hour visits a week. This was while he couldn’t communicate at all about his medical history. This only added to the stress that we were going through. Hopefully things will improve. I wish you well for the future Olivia

So sorry for your loss. It must have been so difficult for you not being able to visit your wife in the hospital. From your post it sounds like you were very hands on with her care until then. Take Care x

Thank you for your quick response according to my waight it should have been fine. But the cramps were terrible in the night and when I looked at reviews on weighted blanket I found that alot of people had same issues which is why I would like to try one at about 4 kg but am struggling to find one so glad your blanket is good for you. Xx

Hi Tipton11a, the first weighted blanket I got was from Lidl but it was too heavy and went back. I went on Amazon and found one for a child - much better. You do have to be careful of the weight as they can be extremely heavy. Look up the table of recommendations for your own weight, they give you the percentage that's right for you. Failing that just buy a child's one like I did!

Glad lots of you find them helpful. I actually found them suffocating and heavy and too hot as I generally have trouble controlling my temperature xx

Hi Olivia. Yea I have my weighted blanket too. Was recommended to me and I was dubious but when my legs are having a really bad fibro day the relief after a while is so good. For me I use it on the sofa and if I’m bad I use it on bed too.

Hi will glad it helps. I got to thinking the other day when I was a girl we had a old feather quilt that mum put on the top of our bed it was really heavy I wonder if this new one is a blast from the past. A remembrance of childhood security 😳

Absolutely! Anything that sparks a memory of comfort helps with pain. I’ve no doubt you’re spot on! Sometimes Trauma is held in the body and by that rationale so too are comforting memories. ❤️
