Same, it's always a hard time of year, cold, dark, wet. Nytol helps me a little, but would like to get back to natural sleep.
You have my sympathy; being able to sleep is a matter of lottery for me. What makes a marginal difference for me is cutting down on gluten. I’m learning more and more how to change my diet too!
Hope you manage some sleep tonight x
Hi.. I have the same problem, I tend to be awake quite early in the morning and not able to get back to sleep.
Recently I've been taking herbal sleep aid from Tesco, taking 2 tablets 2 hours before bed, I have to say when I do wake up early I literally go back to sleep without any problems.
I have found them very beneficial for me and I have felt a lot better since starting taking them.
I find having a cup of warm milk with honey stirred into it is helpful for me. Also try to have a regular bedtime routine, no phones or iPads, just read a book quietly before you try to sleep. Then practice slowing your breathing down, this helps your body and mind to relax. So count your breaths, for example breathe in for a count of one, then out for one, in for two and out for two. Gradually increase the number, but don’t make yourself uncomfortable. Most people when they begin can manage a count or five or six. I find concentrating on breathing calms my mind and helps me to sleep. Some people find remembering a poem , a prayer, or a song lyric can also focus the mind.
Hope this helps?
Hi Nmbc, there are several routes we can go parallel:
1️⃣ Identify and prevent or alleviate all triggers outside & in (I had ~40),
2️⃣ incl. work on alleviating/preventing pains as much as possible.
3️⃣ Practice/try out all recommended sleep hygiene tips, like above (~20).
4️⃣ Try herbs (~10), supps (~10) and if need be meds, watch all for sfx tho.
5️⃣ We sleep more than we believe; try yoga nidra as good sleep substitute.
Anything you'd like me to expand on?
For me: I got most 1️⃣ triggers and "all" 2️⃣ pains down to 0, do "all" 3️⃣ tips - all that only helped a bit tho. 4️⃣ Passiflora in "overdose" and the amino acid GABA help me most; and cold showering 🤪😲 before bed . 5️⃣ Ally Boothroyd's yoga nidra videos (30'-2h) quite often to get my 8.5h "sleep", that (now) feel restorative. (When I'm wide awake tho I usually get up for 1-2h till I'm tired again.)
magnesium glycinate, curcumin, cbd, an hour before bed, warm bath or shower, does help.
I only get about 4 hours a night, been like it for so long now I think my body has got used to it.
I’m so sorry…… because I know the feeling, too well! Here in The States, it seems Drs. Are reluctant to give us Sleep Aids ……… I have found that Tylenol PM works great! I take two with a little water, then I drink a cup of tea or cocoa followed by a warm shower! I have a terry cloth robe that I put in the dryer while I’m showering …… after I dry off…… I put on that warm robe & it feels like heaven …… I go to bed and drift off! GOOD LUCK. From Navywave 🇺🇸
