Pain in coccyx
Hey. Sitting for work can be a literal pain in the bottom! I use an air filled cushion that provides comfort but also helps prevent back pain. It was recommended by my physio. You can PM me for details if you like 🙂
Hi Longframlington thanks for that .every time now I'm sat down it hurts .il have to get a nice soft cushion .I've been looking on amazon.
Some are more expensive than others. I use a SitFit which costs about £25 but it aligns your posture etc as well.
Only just had a look. SitFits (would) hurt me more, my wife showed me one the other day. I'd need a cushion with a hole in it. Also perhaps a bike saddle with a hole in it, like I heard the other day, but actually the hole was in the front, with the theory that normal bike saddles can cause internal damage to us males, esp. on the quaint but painful cobblestones we still have in many side-streets in Germany. Now I know why I often stand up riding, which has got difficult with fibro tho... ;-P
The trials and tribulations of being a man On a serious note, you can get memory foam ring/donut cushions. Have a google!
you say you don't sit too long ... how long is 'not too long'. I could do an hour easily on zoom if i'm in my comfy chair or bed; but 20-30 mins max if sitting on computer chair for example. it may also be the chair you are sitting on - so like others have suggested, cushion or something may help
Hi, sounds like sciatica. I suffer with coccyx pain, I find putting weight on one cheek helps 🙈 probably not a great idea but it helps me xx
The doctor said I had sciatica .that is bad enough. All these different pains .
Oh, yes, that's me too! Thanks for bringing it up, I always thought it was just me. That's one thing we learn here, isn't it?: Often it's "not just me"...
The related diagnosis I once got was sacrum arcuatum or sacrum acutum. Altho this is above the coccyx, it influences its position. However I never really understood, coz if the sacrum is bent inwards, then it shdn't hit chairs as easily?..
The worst thing for me were/are soft comfy sofas & armchairs, where the tailbone really sinks in softly, but after a few minutes the pressure gets terrible. I've had times where I cd've screamed, or did, or wanted to run away from myself or shove a glowing pole in my spine, one of the most excruciating, horrible pains I've ever had in my life, worse than a gone-wrong spinal tap for instance.
I used to prefer hard chairs and ones with a hole at the back. A friend even gave me a chair with a hole cut out. Now hard chairs are pretty bad for me, tho. But I can't always know what chair is right. I also used to think sitting on one cheek is better, like stace987, but it actually causes more other? pain, just takes a bit longer, but holds on just as long. That's also a thing about these pains, they don't just go away when you change position, it can take up to ?an hour?
Most interesting perhaps thing is my acupressurist worked on my tailbone-pain a month ago. Not sure what she did but it was a lot better afterwards and since. Hasn't even needed to repeat it. Not necessarily all sitting, but the tailbone. A former osteopath also did some working on it from inside, strange, but helpful.
It's one of the reasons why I preferred standing at a bar table/desk with an adjustable swivable bar stool, until fibro made that harder a lot of the time...
as someone with spondylolisthesis which causes chronic sciatica I have a "supportiback" pillow which is shaped memory foam with a gel topper that has a handle, and it's have pillow will travel. My physio ordered it for me when I was first having issues [it manifested with mild cauda equina and I couldn't walk/sit/lie for pain] it's weird to get used to [and goes the opposite way to how you think] but it does help. It works best on something like a computer chair but I use it on the couch as well.
If you get Coccyx pain, a coccyx cushion is very good. They have a notch cut out at the back so there is no pressure on the coccyx.
