Hello 1961-1951, I have been having pains in my cheeks on the left side of my face for a long time now and I'm sure its part of Fibro as I don't know what else it could be! Its not there all the time but when it is there its painful and sore to touch! Have you seen your GP about it? What do you do to make it better and how long have you had it for? If its a sharp pain then yoi shouild see your doctor! Good luck Aisha x

You have 2 sinuses in you face just slightly above your cheek bone and one around the eyebrows, I get a lot of sinusitis and this causes terrible nueralgia (can't spell) but basically facial pain - obviously I'm not a gp so can't diagnose and it may not be sinus related but if if is then if can be cleared up with anti biotics. Facial steaming also helps. Do check out anything you'd worried about with your gp xx gentle hugs x

It is a shape shooting pain on my right it last a few seconds then goes a bit numb started about two days ago haven't been to doctors about it yet.

Neuralgia - from what I've heard, something else we share in common!

I get pain all over my face especially my jaw ,also terrlble neuralgia x

Thank you for your replies I will get a doctor appointment , does neuralgia go away or get any worst it's a real bad pain. ( been calling myself face ache) .

Hi,

Neuralgia is the word to describe nerve pain of any kind. I suffer with Trigeminal Neuralgia which is sharp pain anywhere within the sphere of the Trigeminal nerve - this covers most of your face and around the temples/brow generally. It is the kind of pain that stops you in your tracks! If you google that and look at trusted sites like WebMD or the NIH site then you should be able to see differential diagnosis that will include different types of pain and location similar to that of Trigeminal Neuralgia. This should help you identify with something and be able to give your GP some help with more accurate description to aid in his/her desicions on possible treatments.

They say it is the sharpest and worst pain - I think the location makes that the case... Horrible indeed! Good luck with trying to stem that...

Best wishes

Gary

PS I find a heated wheat pack around the neck to loosen the muscles helps - but then I do have a bad neck to antagonise things ;-)

Do see your GP. Any localised predictable (i.e. doesn't jump around) pain with Fibro can often have another cause, even if it is Fibro related, and may need different treatment. Facial pain can be caused by myofascial trigger points, TMJD (which may be caused by myofascial trigger points!), Trigeminal Neuralgia, Sinusitis and probably a lot more. So definitely see your GP to pin down exactly what this is.

Hi there

I wanted to help you with this pain I get TMJ it's the muscle and ligaments in your jaw bone, I have had this pain 3 times now and I can say it is the most sorest pain ever felt, I had my son with no medication at all and I never shed a tear until he was on my arms , when I get TMJ pain I'm stopped with this pain, I cry and cry and cry it had been documented that this is classed as the most painful feeling, last time I had it I said to my husband if it doesn't go away in the next 5 mins then I'm goin to a & e to tell them to give me enough morphine that I was knocked out till it past ,all mothers can appreciate the pain I'm talkin about, luckily for me my fantastic gp gave me anatriptlen Soz about spelling , this drug has stopped the pain and I hope it always will, don't suffer ask about drugs that can help, hope your ok take care Michelle

Pain in the cheekbone is NEVER TMJ but it is often confused with TMJ by dentists who do not know better. it is referred pain from the lateral pterygoids. But I agree, it is really horrible.

Sharp pain on your cheek bone is referred pain from the lateral pterygoids, they are very small jaw muscles that are just behind your jaw bone and difficult to reach. Other symptoms might be pain at the jaw joint or just in front of the ear, tinnitus, difficulty with opening the jaw fully, and post-nasal drip caused by excessive sinus secretions. It is usually caused by myofascial pain, and 70% of people with fibromyalgia have myofascial pain. What can you do about it? Well I had a special mouth frame made by a specialist dentist who had trained in face pain in USA, which relieves the pain at night fully. I am hoping someone will give me a trigger point injection into that muscle, and I am just waiting to hear back from the consultant now, to see if it helps, but it is a private consultant, I don't know if you can get it on the NHS. Love and hope it gets better soon. xx
