Weighted blankets

Hi, I’ve been looking at weighted blankets, has anyone got one, and does it ease pain, help you sleep well, reduces depression etc.

I’ve read that about 10kg is the best weight. What does any of you think? Good or bad?

I got one after after many recommendations in the hope that it would help with sleep. It is nice, good quality and different, being so luxurious and heavy. Sadly, it has not made a difference to my quality of sleep. That said, it is conformting when resting on the sofa. X

I've just gone thru the long thread Momo's reminded of from a month ago, which is mainly positive and I can't find a clear answer to the weight question properly, sounds more like trial and error. But on most of the web shops I've looked at, it says aim for 10% of your body weight and if you're not sure take a bit less. Interesting how (as Momo says) it comes up here so often, every few months. It actually seems to be a very UK thing (even tho our German Aldi has one on sale at the moment), because I've never heard it mentioned for fibromyalgia in Germany or the US.

I've simulated it before and tried again tonight, using several heavier blankets, and realized that it oppresses me, doesn't make me less fidgety, so it irritates me instead of helping, I had to get up for over an hour to get the irritation out of my body again. It also reminded me that since fibro I can't take much cuddling at night any more for the same reason. Before it used to be the opposite, c'dn't sleep without cuddling. So I'd suggest if you (think you might) like to be cuddled all night, it might be right for you. I'd be interested if those who it helps see that differently... Also my skin/body can take no 'plastic', which means there is only one weighted blanket on the market natural enough for me, a Swedish one, from Cura, probably the most expensive (Eco). All others have polyester etc. inside it somewhere, altho a lot flaunt their eco/organic parts.

I’ve had a weighted blanket about 2 weeks. The first few nights it annoyed me no end!! Then I started using it only on my legs and building up a tolerance to it. Now it seems a bit better. But some nights I still get annoyed with it and throw it off 😂 It seems to work best when I’m lying on my back. Which is a shame as I actually normally like to sleep on my front or sometimes my side.

Oh dear, same here with sleeping on front (with a small pillow under part of my face so my neck isn't bent much) or side, better so I can half-twist my back. Maybe I sh'dn't give up yet and try/adapt your way, thx! :-) Like throwing the darn stuff off with a shout of satisfaction ;->

I’ve gone the idea I think, no ones particularly positive about them, and there to expensive to buy on the off chance

I bought one with a 30 day money back guarantee! So if you don’t get on with it they let you send it back and you get a refund. Brand called Kuddly.

And if you have cats put another blanket between their claws and the weighted blanket, or sands will fall out 😂.

I bought a Kuddly weighted blanket. It has helped with my lazy legs a lot and it somehow helps you feel more relaxed, but for me it hasn't helped with the pain. Even though the blanket is weighted they are nice and snuggly

Yes I have one, I don’t use it every night, mostly just when I am struggling to sleep due to restless legs. I personally do think it helps. Kind of numbs out the pain and I fall into a very deep sleep. The blankets take some getting used to though and sometimes it makes me feel claustrophobic and like I can’t move freely under the weight of it. So pros and cons but yes I would recommend trying one.

Ah, thanks Gazelle, I've been wondering if it's good for restless legs etc. It's unclear to me and my sleep-lab-psychiatrist if I have directly restless legs, but I certainly often have an indefinite unrest/restless feeling in the lower back or somewhere I can't localize once or twice a night, and that serves for the longest sleep breaks, often 30'-2h... And similarly I've been trying out putting thicker blankets on, sometimes good, sometimes bad, like you say. Now I know from you guys I don't have to hold thru, I can just throw them off if it's not helping, that's a good way of using them.
