Hubby got chatting to a lady on the common while dog walking (doesnt just go and chat to random women🤣)

She was sugesting using body butters high in magnesium on the painful muscles and taking turmeric.

Has anyone elde heard of this or tried either?

You will be able to search and find previous discussions. There's not any evidence either will help with fibromyalgia pain, but anecdotally some people find they help

Hi, yes I use both magnesium and turmeric.

I don't like the other ingredients in magnesium butters so I use a combination of magnesium oil and flakes (in bath or footbath - Better You is my preference). As with all things start slow and see if it helps you. Magnesium made a huge difference to me and I found out some months after that I have a genetic SNP on COMT (common, like most of them) - COMT enzyme function being either too fast or too slow is linked by some (not all) to Fibro. Mine is theoretically too slow, magnesium speeds up function, so that may explain why it has been so useful.

As far as turmeric goes, I use a small amount in a general liver function support (again after testing, so I know my phase 2 processing is actually poor). I couldn't tolerate fresh turmeric or larger quantities and you definitely need to start low and proceed with caution. Only start one thing at a time (I'm sure you know that - I found from experience that it is essential.) Some do not get on well, partly again can be genetic SNPs. The important thing to remember is that a SNP may not be affecting you at all, may never do so, some are beneficial, and you have to look at them in combination, not in isolation. Don't place too much emphasis on them, they can just be a useful pointer to further investigation of where you actually are having difficulties. hormonesmatter.com/turmeric...

Yes, magnesium spray was recommended to me by my physio. My skin doesn’t like creams generally, so this is perfect - Better You brand. I find it helps. Epsom salts are actually a magnesium compound, so this is why they help some of us feel better!

Not tried turmeric on the outside 🙂 I do take turmeric capsules and make the odd turmeric latte at home. Not sure if they do much, but worth a go perhaps.
