Hi everyone I suffer from fibromyalgia. Since the weather has got cold I have had 3 bad flare ups especially with neck shoulder pain and fibro fog. Have taken magnesium citrate for a few years it seems to help with restless legs. I recently changed to magnesium L - Threonine , did lots of home work on it and liked the fact there was no fillers or binders. However only been taking for a week but restless legs have come back as if I had stopped taking magnesium altogether. Would appreciate any help on what magnesium has helped you. I do feel like I have a little more concentration and energy, but find I can't switch off at bed time even though I take Trazodone for anxiety and depression., witch normally knows me out in 15 minutes. I have taken amitrityline in the past for my fybromyalga but didn't think it helped enough for the side effects I was getting so all I take now is paracetamol for the pain . Sorry for going on,

Oh, do go on. Any info is good info, IMO. I've been on various magnesiums. I like mag bisglycinate and presently taking a liquid combo of magnesium citrate, gluconate,lactate and malic acid. I'm also taking LDN which helps, especially with sleep. It's winter so experiencing the neck and shoulder pain so use a lot of tiger balm and take Epsom salts baths. The LDN also seems to be helping brain fog.

No worries we all need to speak out when we feel like this, perhaps have a word with your doctor, broken sleep is horrid I seem to be getting this at the moment. Wondering what prompted the change when you say it was working for years? If it's just the fillers and binders, there is the magnesium powder. Tastes a bit yuck but it works! Other Magnesiums may have fancy names but citrate is still generally well absorbed and does the job.
Also, don't forget that for folks with slow digestive transit, magnesium citrate is a Godsend as it gives the chance to poop like a nearly normal person. Don't laugh! Much better and more comfortable than taking laxatives. And cheaper for fibros as they would want to take magnesium anyway!
Bathing in magnesium flakes is comforting. Magnesium oil? I found that unendingly greasy and irritating to the skin too. Better when added to home made lotions. Got to use it up somehow, hey?

Hi Al10, I was wondering at what dose of magnesium citrate you use as I have a slow digestive system also and I would love to get rid of my laxatives as they aren’t very pleasant to take at all!
All tummies and systems are different. I take a 200mg tablet (huge bullet looking thing!) sometimes one morning and one evening and sometimes I forget one dose. It seems to work for me.
If you take the powder it is easy to adjust, and to overdo too! I thought nothing was happening so took extras and suddenly I had a bit of a gripey tum. Ooh it got things properly moving!
Unlike movicol that randomly liquifies your tum for days and days (with the associated gripey pains ongoing) without sorting the problem, this only lasted a couple of hours, and because I had sensibly started my experiment during the evening, I could safely go to bed and sleep off my exertions! Phew!
I suggest starting with one, then two and give them time to work? My bottle recommends 2x200mg tabs per day.
With GPs going off for Christmas breaks, this isn't the best time to change your meds, as you seem to have found out. Your Pharmacist should be able to advise you.

Apple cider vinegar helps with that problem too and then there's always good old prunes! 😉

you could try magnesium malate in the morning, which is best for pain, and magnesium bis glycinate in the evening to help sleep, (I have been taking both for years and it definitely helps me, I take the magnesium biglycinate an hour before bed along with vit d3 and vit K2. I tried the threonate and found it not to be as effective.

I use amazon, they have plenty of brands, most of whom are good, I still buy different brands depending on what strength or quantity I think I need, also sometimes the tablets are too big ,so although the product is fine I will buy another that is smaller size tab. also you can buy 5kg tubs of magnesium salt for baths on amazon

Hi Zoonie, I find it depends why you have slow transit as to what to do.
Prunes and fibre are oddly my enemy not my friend when it comes to 'SPEED'. (and I used to love prunes etc). Until my system slowed to almost static I had no idea about such a thing or why it was happening or what was making it worse. Took a long time to figure. If it is gastroparesis, even normal amounts of fibre can be a major issue.
I eat bananas and probiotics but it's not the whole answer to what ails. Magnesium is magical for me as it isn't adding to my fibre load to get the job done (so to speak). And it has to be done!
Great that so many folks are choosing natural ways to help themselves. It is about finding the fix that help each individual. Which is why this site is so valuable. Each of us find our own fixes that might also help someone else.
