Pip yes or no ??

I got diagnosed by my rheumatologist in may with fibromyalgia. An mri scan showed wear & tear on discs on my back. Also a bulging disk in my lumbar spine. I’ve been in agony since last year , it came on all of a sudden after the death of my younger brother. I found him in his flat & cause of death was pneumonia at only 33yrs old. I took on extra work which was my way of coping. A self employed care worker....rolling & lifting on my own when it should of been double handed. I don’t have periods due to contraceptives but last July I started bleeding really heavy for 11 weeks, the same time as my back caused pain. I felt like I’d been kicked in the stomach & back. At the time I applied for pip but they only gave me 10 points out of the 12 I needed & this was due to me being able to call my mum on my mobile to pick me up!!. My 2nd mri last week which shows much worse wear & tear on my spine plus a growth on my liver which is being investigated, I’ve had a ultrasound because of it and now been referred for a CT scan for closer investigation. Do I try to apply for pip again?? I’ve had loads of injuries just cleaning my house due to unsteady legs. I thought I’d broke my arm then nearly broke my foot. One image attached. What are everyone’s thoughts? I’ve got no help from anyone

I went for a pip meeting so they met me. I could only walk with the help of my mum. And my blood pressure was 190/130 and they said that’s normal on a meeting with them. The meeting lasted over an hour

Meeting was in February this year, & I got a reply the middle of March too say I was not in the catagory for help

I got 5 on care & 5 on mobility

5 on mobility seems odd I did not think you could end up with an odd number of 5 on mobility the way the point system is set up

Yes I most possibly am wrong regards to points . Had so much going on my brain is fried. I really should fish out my letter I got in March to say I wasn’t entitled to pip. I’ve filed it away safely. So I’ll have a proper look at my points tomorrow

You can do a late Mandatory Reconsideration if you have "good reason" for waiting longer than a month. Good reason could well be your physical and/or mental health

And I forgot to say I didn’t appeal because I was totally drained & exhausted

Ok Thankyou, I’m forever injuring myself & also have a 3 inch burn mark on my arm now from trying to take food out of the oven. I’ll defo reapply on Monday

I can't use my stove any more. Use an airfryer, it's safer and it has a timer. I'm trying to find a stove with duel fuel but with timers for both the oven and hob. Someone should make them as there's a market for them.

Re pip, it is really essential that your answers tie in with the descriptors - otherwise you can lose out on points you might be entitled to.

You can get guidance in completing the forms by contacting fma uk benefits helpline on 0300 999 0055 (Mon, Wed, Fri 10-12) or email benefits.advice@fmauk.org

You should appeal the last pip assessment. You need the support and help. Try citizens advice and always think about your worst day and write about the details.

Keep appealing and applying. You'll soon get a human assessor. I've been turned down three times and appealed twice, now waiting for my third appeal and I put in my fourth application. It's been known for people to get it backdated. Appeal, appeal, appeal! Apply, apply, apply. What have you got to lose? I recommend getting an agency to assist you as they tend to know how to answer the questions in a way the DWP can understand. Good luck and don't give up!

It seems that carers always suffer damage to their spine 🤔 I was a Foster carer and I suffered damage to my spine 🤔 pity we don't report the damage at the time, if only we knew

Hi sorry for your sad loss. PIP is about what you can or can't do and not about the conditions you have provide as much medical evidence such as scans as you can. Good luck x

Not forgetting is not what you have wrong with you it’s how it affects your daily living, you rarely get pip first attempt, as the f2f appointment person don’t always put the actual truth about you and how your condition affects you, I didn’t get it first time so left it and forgot about it until a year later I had a support worker she pushed me to appeal by which time it was too late, but luckily through her we wrote a long letter together and got all consultants letters and one from doctor they accepted my appeal.. as should of in the first place and I got put on advanced for daily living and standard for mobility, so never settle for an outright sorry your not entitled x

I have over 40 years of chronic spine problems ( at its worst even given me fits, regular vertigo, plus seizing up and considerable pain), plus diabetes, and fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism. You mention ‘thyroid stopped working’ as a throw away comment but suggest you get that investigated properly and treated. Many hypothyroids also have problem with absorption thru gut and are low on vitamins and minerals, that can for eg make one unsteady, anxious etc etc. Have a look at sister Healthunlocked Thyroid U.K. site. From experience I have found other than changing lifestyle re.spine and fibro, it is treating whole hypo.that improves my health and well being. Never tried PIP but get Disabled Badge for walking problems from spine.

Definitely reapply. Is there a charity near you that helps with form filling? When I applied for PIP a volunteer from a local charity helped me with my application, for which I will be ever grateful as I had no clue what to put down. I was still turned down after my assessment interview but gather this is normal. I then applied for mandatory reconsideration which overturned the decision, but you have to get this in within four weeks of being turned down. It is a long, hard slog to get PIP but it can be done, and there is help out there for you to get through the process.
