Can anyone help

Hi I have just had a provisional diagnosis of fibromyalgia after seeing a rheumatologist today. I seem to have pain all over. The pain and stiffness I get is horrible and as many of you fo I struggle to walk after sitting or lying down. The specialist wont prescribe painkillers and has now told me to discontinue my naproxen which have helped me a lot. I am being referred for physio so hopefully it will help.

Hi K, others here will say some painkillers & naproxen may help a bit. I tried them, and they harmed more than they helped. Amitriptyline was the only one that first helped, at least sleep, but then harmed a lot in the long run. After being able to get almost all of my pains down to zero as soon as they crop up, got my sleep better too, and having gotten some of my Ache, exhaustibility etc. down, I think that physios are the very best way of getting external help, but only if they are sensitive: They may claim to know exactly what fibro is, how it works and what to do, but if what they tell you to do or do with you gives you pain, cramps etc. and you tell them and they can't respond to that, then look for new ones. Osteopaths are often good, but even there I needed to change. Ear-Acupressure works best for me.

Even more important I find is to get to know my body, analyzing symptoms (with the help of forum-fibromites), changing behaviours, getting to know your invisibly moving sweet spots, but keeping on your toes not to give in completely...

So personally, I understand your rheumatologist not trying painkillers...

Thank you for replying and for the info. I have been on Amitriptyline for years for my shoulder but I think my body has got used to them. Hopefully physio will help . Many thanks. X

Ask to try another in the same family. I find Nortryptiline good for muscle relaxation and sleep. There are several drugs in that family.

Cheers, Midori
