Hi Sallydog,

Yes, I occasionally get this.

If you Google Costochrondritis, which is inflammation of the rib cartilage, it may be what you're experiencing. It is very common in those of us who have fibromyalgia. x

Will do !! Thank you

Yeah my ribs (all around) hurt all the time if touched, even lightly. Been like it for over 3 years now :(

When I first had it and went to the GP, they suggested Costochrondritis, this was before my fibro diagnosis.

It's frustrating as even a hug can hurt, I just don't understand how it's constantly there :(

What’s frustrating for me - I feel like my ribs are squeezing me and it’s painful to lie down. Yours sounds just as painful and thank you for your reply !!

Yeah I know what you mean, if I rolled onto my side while asleep, I'd wake with the pain. It doesn't seem quite so bad now, but it is there *constantly*.

I first noticed it at the gym when leaning into a chest pad to do rows. I can't even do that now :(

I thought it was because I’ve been in 5 car crashes ( none of them my fault ) and maybe it was something like arthritis in the ribs at the back. I’ve asked several doctors but have got nowhere.

With all the blood tests they did at the time, I did find out I was vitamin D deficient. 13nmol/L (less than 30 in deficient). The GP was surprised that my pain didn't totally go once I'd had treatment and was up to an (almost) normal level. I think it was after this that he diagnosed fibro. If you haven't been tested, then it's probably worth getting it checked :)

Costochrondritis is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. Paracetamol might help, but often something stronger is required like Diclofenac or Meloxicam on prescription from a GP. If it does not resolve, please make an appointment to see your Doctor.

Hi, thank you for your info !!! I’m on morphine patches for neck injury, pregablin, codeine , and paracetamol just to get rid of pain and do worry about taking anything else 😂😂

I was having morphine patches for 12 years and then they would burn my skin raw , I looked like a chess board !!!

I take pregablin again long-standing and now have Zomorph and other medications . I have rib pain and last week had a mammogram and told them this and they included this but results came back all ok so I think it’s my fibromyalgia but I also have osteoarthritis so unsure ????

Suffering from costochrondritis and Bornholm disease which is the pits... Constantly feel like you're having a heart attack.

And yet I'm still able to smile now and again! Right then I'm usually saying Eff it all! Try reading the book with the same title. It works

My sister suffers with costochrondritis and it literally takes her breath away so painful

in reply toChrissy08

If she has tightness around the heart it’s Bornholm disease.

can be but could also be pericarditis or a number of other things so as with most things best to get them checked out.

Mine have been like it for over 20 years. First noticed it when hubby used to muck about picking me up underneath my arms. Very painful in bed as well. For the first few years I was changing beds because of it.

Yes I get this too. Sometimes it is sesitive to touch other times my chest feels so tight. I have been to A&E twice in the last 3 years to have an ECG to exclude heart attack. Stay as well as you can Caz.

Yes severe pain for over 35 years; can not even wear a bra; it is a big part of fibro and called costochondritis; but the worst EVER pain is if you develop IC (Interstitial Cystitis) with fibro as then you will pray for death.

Yes I think its all the tight muscles, try hot stone therapy with someone who understands fibromyalgia. X

i get the pain in my ribs too. had ct scan etc and didn’t come to a definitive prognosis. they said it’s related to fibro. wearing a bra is so uncomfortable with it!

I don't think I've worn a bra in 20 years. LOL

unfortunately i’m top heavy so that’s not an option i asked about breast reduction but doc says i’d need to loose 2and 1/2 stone. they must weigh about a stone each so that would be problem solved! lol😂😂😂

they actually have a name for this, it's a fibro hug. Not a very nice hug, I'd say

This happens so often, I am used to it. I find taking a deep breath and pushing back against the pain will relieve it, most times
