Hi Brenda,

Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia?

It can cause the problems you mention, and it can also cause back pain, but if this is something new for you it might be worthwhile having a chat with your GP, who will be able to recommend medication if they think it would help.

You might find some of the heat rubs which you can buy at the chemist helpful. Even a hot water bottle or heat pad on your back may help with the back pain.

I hope you can get some ease soon. xx

Hi Brenda,

So sorry you are having that amount of pain. I too, suffer with pain in my hips, legs etc. Sometimes it’s like an intense cramp and they feel heavy and other times it’s sharp pains. Resting is hard when the pain is that intense. I’ve found heat works wonders, a hot bath (sometimes as hot as I can stand for a short burst) I’ve purchased a wedge cushion as I’ve found keeping my legs bent when lying down most helpful for easing the strain on my back and helps mellow out the cramping feeling. Also an electric heat pad helps keep my back and hips warm through the night to help ease the spasms. A hot water bottle works well too. I’ve found wearing certain shoes seems to make it worse - so I try to wear shoes which support my ankles too which eases the pain in my ankles and knees. See if you can track down a pattern. I hope you feel better soon. Xx

Differently my Epsom salts baths, I use bio freeze gel to rub in during the day, when weather is cooler my hot water bottles, heat I find comforting. Doctor has given me codiene to use on my worst days but not all the time, a good mattress for support ,recently I swapped beds just for the night as my daughter stayed , boy the mattress was hard and uncomfortable and made such a difference trying to get a good nights sleep. Xx

Hi,

Do you have Fibro diagnosis yet? These things can be part of Fibro, but it is a condition which mimics others, so it is worth getting the diagnosis first so that we can advise better. We aren't doctors, but some of us are former nurses.

Your symptoms are similar to mine, but I also get extreme stiffness with it, to the extent that I am sure that sometimes my spine is trying to divorce my hips! ;) If I get down on the floor for any reason, I cannot get up without help.

Mine is nearly all below the waist, but I know others have different places; some in the ribs and shoulder girdle.

It is often accompanied by digestive issues such as IBS and/or reflux with oesophageal scarring. Some folk have vitamin deficiencies, or Thyroid problems.

Fibro is a collection of linked symptoms, which can often be confused with ME/CFS, and is diagnosed by first excluding all the other possibilities. It can be a long journey to a Fibro Diagnosis, in my case it took nearly 20 years.

Cheers, Midori

I agree with jackie0212 it could be your siatic nerve . There are some simple stretches that you can try and see if you get any relief. It only takes about 15min and it really might help, I had very similar pain that you are having. The pirformis muscle might be to tight and pinching your siatic nerve it is very painful. The stretches help to relax the pirformis muscle and the pain dissipates. I will attach a website that has some exercises, if you dont like this one just search pirformis syndrom muscle exercise and it will bring up many websites to choose from. Hope this helps

Gental hugs❤

Unfortunately a diagnosis of fibromyalgia can give reason not to investigate recurring, ongoing or new symptoms. I have various other health conditions in addition to fibromyalgia and like many will try anything to improve my quality of life and reduce my pain. I started hyperbaric oxygen therapy over a year ago and although I noticed improvements it is only now having not been able to access oxygen therapy due to lockdown that im aware just how much it has helped. I hope your symptoms improve 💞

Omg you sound like me with the high hip pain severely so I recently started using absorbine veterinary LINIMENT GEL ..i use it head to toe for my pain and it has helped me beable to move the muscles in that area much easier with less pain ..its safe and doesn't irritate the skin and the minty smell goes away after alittle bit ..its the best thing I've tried in years for pain and swelling also ..its incredible and wont break the bank ..ace hardware or any horse supply store or online ..check out the reviews from people that use it on themselves..use it 3x a day at first but will help really quickly and no burning and won't rub off onto your clothes

Can I ask, are you in the UK or the States?

In UK we cannot go into a store and buy veterinary medicines: we have to get them from a vetinarian.

Also veterinary medications are not sold for Human use, in many cases.

I suffer with pains in my feet, knees, hips and back. Recently the back pain got much worse. Doctor sent me for an MRI and I have sciatica to add to all the other ailments. I find stretching helps plus hot or cold pads.

Definitely get it checked out.

I hope you get sorted soon and find some relief

Hi sorry to hear you are in pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 10yrs ago, I am 57 now. Typically I get lower back pain and stiffness, upper back, shoulder, neck pain. A few yrs ago I started to get leg pain, just one side. It got worse and worse finally I had an x-ray and found that had severe deterioration of my hip joint. Finally had a total hip replacement in 2018. Same thing happened with the other hip which was replaced last year. I would definitely advise you to have a consultation with the GP and if you can, push for an x-ray to see if there is any damage to your hip joint. The pain I had was all down my leg not just around the hip joint itself. I know how difficult it is when you can’t get comfortable in any position. Good luck hope you get some relief soon.😊
