Headaches

Past couple of nights this week I’ve had severe agonising headaches before bed and I am sleep deprived as been crying myself to sleep with the amount of pain I’ve been in. The pain is also in the jaw and around the eye area which is very sensitive. Taking medication which doctor prescribed me to take 2 Pizotifen before bed and then 1 almogran when I feel an attack coming on. These don’t help at all. I don’t know what to do this pain is awful.

Hmm,not a nice situation to be in,I was in a similar situation myself, but my headaches were normally while I was asleep, and I have never known such intense pain, like yourself I was crying at the end of the bed rocking with the amount of pain, I was getting 2/3 per night without fail, and I told my doctors I was at the end of my tether, I was first put onto a low dose of propranolol as a preventative treatment, and I also had a emergency tablet (naratriptan) when a migraine came on,at first it worked, but then the dosage was increased, and it stopped the migraines again, but eventually I was on the maximum dose of propranolol and unfortunately I was still getting the migraines, and then I changed to topiramate, which took around 3 weeks to get upto the maximum dose to stop the migraines,I have been migraine free, and don't even need to use the naratriptan,it all depends on how long you have been getting these headaches, and this is what your doctors will be looking at with your medication, the only downside I have found is that the medication tends to reduce your appetite, but it's a small price to pay if the migraines are that severe and you are losing sleep, its not a nice place to be in,and I sympathise with you, hopefully you can continue interacting with your doctors and maybe get a little further forward to be headache free, good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been getting constant headaches for about 2/3 months now all on the right side of my head and that was the first time I have been crying myself to sleep because the pain was that bad. I have been give all Sorts of triptan meds to try and none have been touching the pain at all. Going to ring the drs on Monday and say about it all again. Would be nice to be headache free.

It is a long process, it took me nearly 3 months, I told my doctor I was sick of living with them, unfortunately the doctor has a process to go through, and it's the cheapest and easiest way to keep on trying different methods before organizing scans etc, and this is what he/she might to trying to do for you with medications, a preventative medication is probably something you might need, even though my blood pressure wasn't high propaonol is used and I presume this was used to keep to keep it down when I was getting these headaches, but it is difficult as headaches are different as mine came on suddenly, I would get hot bodily wise firstly, then the pressure would buildup in the top of my left hand side of my head and creep into my eyeball, and then my nostril would become blocked, all on the left hand side, and it would last upto around 30 minutes or so,and I knew when it would start to go as my nose would start running clear liquid,so describing headaches can also be difficult, and explaining this to your doctors may well also be important, once again I wish you well, and get help sorted soon is a must, thanks.

Thank you very much. I’m definitely going to either call the GP Monday or might ring 111 for advice as nothing is helping and seem to be going around in circles with it all x

I’ve suffered with extreme headaches for 3-4 years, the GP would be clueless until I saw a neurologist and everything became clear... it might not be but I was diagnosed with SUNCT syndrome which is extremely rare, the pain is indescribable. Please demand a referral from your GP, you need a specialist as most will incorrectly diagnose you.

I take lamotrigine which is a game changer..

Happy to advise further if needed.. <email address removed - please pm op instead>

Same for me as Cb1963 propranolol then Topirimate, still get migraines but not as often and nowhere near as severe as before.

Before I had preventative I had sickness with mine, constant vomiting for hours of just stomach bile🤮and I used 111 a few times to get injection to stop it so preventative makes a massive difference.

Hope you get some relief soon x

Go back to the doc please! This awful pain- poor love- must be managed with medication that is right for YOU. We’re not all the same. Some meds suit others but not us. Work with what helps your body best. And tell your doc.

Your pain can be managed by other meds- it’s just a question of finding out which. Don’t give up! Please don’t despair. We all had to find out how to manage this.

Hang on in there. And happy new meds!

My constant severe headache turned out to be a rare form of stroke. I'm not wanting to scare you but you must get seen. They were very clear that I should have presented myself earlier than a week in.

I hope it is less serious, but worth getting medical advice now.

I’m not a doctor but I have trigeminal neuralgia. It’s pain ythat shoots up or down one side of your face and is caused by a nerve that is touching a blood vein. I got it from a dental surgery. I take gabapentian. It is pain medicine especially for this ailment. It works, and helps me sleep. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for gabapentian

Ask your doc for a headache referral, I’ve got scheuermanns disease and JMHS, FM, PoTS (& others - I’m so lucky - I know!!) and after an appointment With the headache clinic; I was diagnosed with ‘new daily persistent headache’... teetering migraine a lot, sometimes it tops over, but it gets to the point where it’s about to go, dizziness, sickness, Faint, intense head pain, light and earache issues etc etc etc but it dies down within about 30 mins - but it’s excruciating along with the other symptoms listed next - it feels like my head and neck is going to explode... so have a continuous headache allllll the time - it never goes - ever - been going on for 2.5 years now (neck is in so much pain too)... but with everything else, I get the jaw clenching, head pain and front neck pain And lots of spasming going on... so there’s a lot going on in and around my FACE haha... the headache man even left it open, for me to return at any point if I want/need too, as with everything else; trying to find medication that doesn’t affect everything else, plus trialling loads of meds trying to worm is always fun, I don’t have enough holiday pay to cover them all lol and I have and as there’s so much going on, he left it open, which is nice, gave me a lot of answers, but ask your doc, explain what’s going on and ask for a referral, find one local to you and hand them the details, I generally find they can’t argue, if you’ve done the legwork, hope you get answers soon, they don’t always help, but it does help you understand x

Have you tried going to a chiropractor? If I don’t go then I get awful headaches resulting from joints in my neck.

Please see your dr, it pays to be safe when it is this bad.

I get migraines and am on a beta blocker (propranolol) and it had helped so much. If I do get one I take Imigrain nasal spray .

Good luck xo
