Upcoming Pain Clinic Appointment??

I’m really nervous about an upcoming appointment at the Pain Clinic.. as not only am I nervous about what to expect, but I also struggle with agoraphobia.. What natural therapies and pain killers/anti depressants do they generally prescribe? I liked the sound of hydrotherapy and was thinking of trialling CBD oil.. but stronger pain killers for flare ups. ??? Fed up of being in pain.. Thanks

Hi, its difficult to say what the pain clinic will offer you, as they all are different. While pain clinics may review the medications you are on, many also run pain management programmes which are educational based, usually over 8-12 weeks and explain what pain is, what causes chronic pain, pain management techniques , learning to love with chronic pain etc.

Do you have someone that can go along with you, to help ease your anxiety xxd

Totally agree with everything Hazel_Angelstar has replied.

Go with a completely open mind as there are no magic pills.

One thing you could do is keep a pain diary for at least a week before you go This will tell them, and you, when and where you are in pain

All pain clinics seem to differ. I was put on a waiting list for hydrotherapy about a year ago and until that happened I was invited to attend lectures on different aspects of pain, pain management, exercise and so on.. I think I attended 4, they were so badly presented I gave up. They may just as well have sent the sheets of paper through the post to read. Still no hydrotherapy on the horizon !

I know it’s difficult with agoraphobia, could a friend go with you ? Then at least you’ve given it a try. It might be great, really helpful and informative. Some are much better than the ones I was offered.

Pain clinics are a mixed bag. Go like the others have said with an opened mind. Some people come away with great plans of treatment, whilst others, not so great. Best of luck with your appointment. Xx
