I too suffer from phantosmia.

I suffer from this too- phantosmia. The doctor said that sometimes people who work outdoors all day cutting grass have this problem due to sinus problems and pressure on a nerve that runs along the back of the skull. It drives me insane. It started out like second hand cigarette smell, lately if I walk onto any place that has a grill like Waffle House or even if I cook burgers on the stove top at home - a funky burnt grease smells gets stuck in my nose .

Oddly, before I didn’t have to be around cigarettes burning to smell them. I don’t smoke- nor have I. It does burn my nose for a few days with the onset. I have to use A Vick’s vapor stick for about a week. Very very annoying!!!

Yes, the horrible burning smell in my nose is sometimes so acrid that it makes my eyes water. Oddly enough it only happens in certain situations, like in bed or when I'm on my laptop, sometimes in the car. It isn't constant, I may go for months without it and then suddenly it will be there and last for about 3 weeks. No medical explanation, no reason that I can come up with. I use neat lavender oil to overcome the smell, but I might try the Vic's trick. Thanks for the tip.

What a truly ridiculous condition this is!

Oh that must be horrible.

I suffer with it too but occasionally. Mine is allergy related.

Have you seen an ENT ears nose and throat doctor about it? This is their specialty and may be able to treat or cure it.

I can’t imagine having it as severely as you.

Regarding the Vick’s inhaler. If you can tolerate this...keeping the inhaler in a pocket that’s close to your body heat really intensifies the strength of the meds and stays longer. Side effect is it really burns more. Makes my eyes water.

Just said a special prayer for you my friend.

Take care and best wishes for a cure.

I have a flare up -maybe every 2 months or so. No, no medications or cures that I know of. Last night I experienced it-this morning I’m fine.

Thank you for your kind words.

Best to you.
