Fibromyalgia and Nausea

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and been left to deal with it really. I have joined this community today as I need to speak to people who understand what I am going through and can offer advice. What do they say.... A problem shared I'd a problem halved.

I am suffering very badly with my stomach. In the evening, usually I feel nauseous and my shoulders and neck have a burning/numb sensation in, on them. I feel like I have a temperature too and I don't know what to d o with myself.

I have to go to bed when I feel like this and lie still. If I move I think I will be sick. I can't stand noise either when I'm tired.

Does anyone suffer in this way?

Yes, I do and it's horrible but I do many other conditions which cause me to feel sick and be in pain 24/7 , get an hour or less sleep per night due to pain. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Yes , I would think from description it's tightness in neck , presses on nerve and other things... I'm going through at moment , check my temperature, I'm cold but feel hot , liquid neurofen for me , sleep , anything to help release beck , posture and physio ... So far ,

I don't think that causes nausea

Actually it can. The body has other control systems other than the brain movement centre. One is the spine the other are the cranial nerves which leave the brain at the very top of the spine. One of these is the vagus nerve which connects to the digestive system.

Pressure on the vagus nerve can be applied by certain muscles in the neck vicinity. This pressure can result in feeling nauseous. It is not easy to pick up this pressure because it can be very light and we notice the stronger pressures caused by the spinal system musculature that are elsewhere. Changing the stronger pressures elsewhere can reduce the gentle pressure on the vagus nerve that causes the feeling of being nauseous.

Thanks for that nugget of information. I have tried every over the counter and anti-sickness pill from dr to no avail and as I have problems with my back as well I'm going to run this post my Dr this week because this has had a large impact for the last few yrs and I've had ultrasounds and colonoscopy etc to no avail. So anything is worth a go right now. Thanks again

Buccastem, try it

Yes I do, but my nausea is in the mornings and some afternoons. I find that a gentle fan blowing on me when I am lying down helps. It helps not only with the pain and muscle tightening but also as 'white noise' which allows me to relax and fall asleep for a while.

Over sensitivity to noise and light are well known parts of fibro, I’m afraid. I no longer go to the cinema or theatre as I can’t control the sound levels.

For nausea try an over the counter travel sickness tablet. I found they work quite well.

Might be worth watching Anne Louise Oaklander | Small Fibers, Big Pain || Radcliffe Institute on youtube youtube.com/watch?v=s66LvWQ.... From memory, she says that about 50% of fibro is due to Small Fibre Neuropathy, which can cause upper GI problems including nausea, plus numbness etc. (Sadly my new neurologist who is checking me for SFN hasn't watched it and didn't have a clue why I referred to GI issues in my long list of symptoms!). I use fresh ginger - make it into a tea, chew small raw chunks (before meals, chew fast so it is well crushed and swallow with a little water), cook with it whenever possible... I am now on AIP so no grains or dairy etc, which has helped me ( The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association says that fibro is autoimmune and it seems that some if not all SFN is, although I realise others disagree. I have other AI conditions too, hence diet). Good idea to do a full check of vitamins, minerals, complete bloods and get a copy of results. Mine were dire and especially Vit D, K2, magnesium (flakes) Vit C have helped. Could be B12/folate issue but need to check that out properly before any supplementation. Best wishes

Keep a diary of what you have been doing to see if something is setting the sickness off. From my experience certain meds i cant take due to feeling sick. Are certain tasks making you feel sick. With me its when i over use my arms i feel physically sick and i sympahise as its horrid.

Hope you get the help and a few tips on here and maybe get back into the DR and get a check over med review.

I to suffer with N/V grandma s tummy mint tea is all-natural and works really well, you can find in any grocery store if you can't find make your own with peppermint. I have a fractured L1 so I suffer a great deal with my neck and back I think we have all tried hot lavender baths, bio freeze, heating pads, tens unit patches, whatever you can find to help you with your pain I personally go for the all-natural route if possible many will make suggestions on here to help keep diary for your self and DR. that was the best advice I ever received and your right it's nice to have someone to talk to because no one else will be able to relate so welcome and keep coming back because we need you as much as you need us

I can't stand ginger 🤤...lol , not that matters , pick up on symptoms sooner....🤪.... trying to help 😞

Hello Paeonia,

Many folk have Irritable Bowel Syndrome along with Fibro, which can lead to symptoms, but also gallstones need to be considered.

Gallstones are usually found in ladies over a certain age, and a doctor told me they often appear in 'females, 40s, fat , fair and fertile' I don't know if you may be in that group, but if you are feeling nauseous after your evening meal it's worth getting checked.

Many of us Fibromites also have gallbladder problems, and it isn't worth putting up with the pain of either gallstones or IBS when there are treatments available. Please see your doctor.

Cheers, midori

Gall bladder issues (sluggish, stones etc) can be due to poor methylation, oestrogen, hypothyroidism. Might be worth checking how well your liver is detoxing.

My liver is fine; it was just gallstones. I can now eat fats with no problems.

I have developed a gluten sensitivity which is manageable by using Sourdough bread. instead of Pasta I eat Rice Noodles.

Thank you for your interest .

Cheers, Midori

Glad to hear about your liver - just out of interest, what did you treat gallstones with? Best wishes.

You don't treat Gallstones; you get rid of the gall bladder, most often via a keyhole surgery. Usually if you go in in the morning, you are out by evening. I went in in the afternoon, and I went home the next morning.

Glad it worked for you - I know some avoid the surgery as not changing the diet or fixing the underlying cause can lead to further problems.
