Diabetes & FMS

Hi guys, I am new here and wondered if there are others out there with the same issues. It can be really hard. If the fibro flares badly I can't move much but also need to keep exercising to keep blood glucose stable. I would welcome any tips from other sufferers who are also type 1 diabetic and living with FMS

Hi, welcome to this supportive site.

I have type 2 Diabetes and Fibromyalgia. I'm not sure I can help much but I still play badminton once a week (doubles usually) but sometimes I can't always manage it on a weekly basis. I have tried to continue to do some form of exercise, even if it's a short 15min walk to keep me moving. There are lots of suggestions for things like chair exercises, those band things to stretch certain muscles online.

A lot of it is around pacing yourself - it might take a while to get an understanding of how much you can do - so a bit of trial and error. If you start small, maybe just stretching exercises and for a short time, leave a couple of days to recover or more/less, depending on how your body reacts and make up a plan based on recovery or flare times.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,

Ax

Thank you for your reply. You are right in saying things have to be paced more now. I try to do a yoga class once a week, although I wasn't able to make it for about 4 months over the summer. I also try to get out with our little dog on a daily basis. It's all just so frustrating to now be able to do the things you once could.

We do lose condition very quickly, and it takes an age to get back up on our feet again. With diabetes it gets more of a juggling act.

Hi all well fm is the one thing that takes my energy.i got my cortisone shots in my hips Tues. 7th this week and wow it puts a spring in my step i go from feeling 80 to a 40 maybe I'm 64 lol.i found that i learned what i can and can't do and go from there . i keep trying every day ,don't give up . you may have to slow down the badminton to a lesser active game . I'm lucky to try and do a bit of shopping and some house hold things. yesterday i made 3 pie shells and by back near broke from tension..biscuits and dinner for my friend . hubby was out.i put all food in oven and voila .delicious .and she helped to clean up . so no nap but i was in bed by 830.keep challenging your self and never give up but do take rest periods. I feel my body is in constant drive mode good luck
