Just writing to grumble really, not able to move alot as since yesterday awful back pain across the very bottom of my back ( have 2 degenarative lumbar discs) but have never had pain so bad 😥 it is radiating mainly down my left side right down to the side of my ankle.
Tried driving yesterday that was very painful and i drive an automatic ( mobility car) so that even affected my left side and dont even use my left foot to drive!
Wasnt sure if maybe sciatica? The pain makes me feel quite sick and i am so tired, more so then usual!
I have had fibro since 2015 and this seems to be a seperate issue, dont know wether to go to the doctors or not! I take 600 mg pregabalin
15 mg longtec morphine ( morn)
10 mg longtec morphine (eve)
60mg floroxitine ( depression & anxiety)
30mg propnadol( beta blockers)
And i have oramorph to take if and when needed!
I took it yesterday took edge of pain but that was all
Seen so many doctors consultants, 2 weeks ago i had a lygnocaine infusion in hospital, that hasnt even worked!
I really am at my wits end and just sit and cry,as always in so much pain, was medically retired from work ( worked frontline in a bank ) in april 2018, life is hard and i am only 51😔
Sorry to rant but good to get it off your chest, the more i sit and think the worse thoughts i seem to get! 😓
Thanks for listening, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day 😊

I think you need to see someone about the back pain, doctor, physio or chiropractor. You’ll need an assessment first as to what is actually wrong and only the professionals can do that.
If you can lay flat in your bed and very gently push one heel away from you. It may only move a tiny amount, as little as 1/2 an inch. Doesn’t matter. Relax, then try to extend the other heel down away from you the same ( your toes will be pointing at the ceiling. ) Try this alternating feet 3 or 4 times. Stop if you get any sharp pain but it might just ease it.
I’m not a medic but I’ve done this when I’ve hurt my back, countless times, and it’s always eased it.
You can also try a wrapped ice pack on your back for 10 minutes.
But I really think your best seeing a professional.
Does sound like Sciatica, I get and it, it's the most awful pain and it does go right down my right leg, I know I could pull my hair out when it strikes. I also have herniated and bulging disc issues, Osteoarthritis from neck to lumbar spine and Spinal Stenosis. Do you have a tens machine, wouldn't be without mine
a warm wheatbag or hot water bottle also help. My gp gave me Voltoral gel but doesn't help much, Are in UK as I buy Tiger Balm Red from Holland and Barrett, it gets very warm but it helps. I also buy Ibuprofen over the counter agreed by my gp but I do have a stomach protector in prescription. Heat & anti inflammatory pills & creams are what help me. Hope you get relief soon.
Yes, be sure & let the proper doctor know (if you haven’t already) your infusion of two weeks ago did not help you, & you are now experiencing worse pain. I can experience more back related pain after driving distances. Had you driven further to get to the hospital & back?
I had some pharmacogenomic testing done for another matter but results found that certain pain medications would not work effectively on me. Next time you are at the hospital you might ask if they offer this (mouth swab) genetic testing. In the states I believe you can order it online (but I would go with the same company the hospital uses).
Doing deep breathing might help some. I have read in the past circulation to the spine is far from great. Perhaps breathing deeper could help if you can tolerate it.
When I have had MRIs in the past a pillow has been place under my lower legs for comfort. Have you tried that? Just be sure it isn’t under your knees, as it could hinder circulation there. I hope you feel better soon.
After several steroid injections, mostly ineffective, I was forced to undergo a surgical procedure called a "Spinal De-compression" which entirely fixed my Sciatica, and it has remained fixed now for 1 year. But it took me about a minimum of 6 weeks to recover from the op., and I'd advise allowing up to 2 months.
You need to have, if not already done, an MRI scan of your lower body. And get on the waiting list for the op. - all done in conjunction with your G.P.
In my case the Sciatic nerve was getting pinched somewhere as it was leaving my spinal cord to travel to my right foot - so I had awful calf-muscle pain needing 2 x 60mg of slow-release Morphine/24hrs.
As to medication I was started on Paracetamol, then in succession - Co-codamol, Solpadol, Tramadol, slow-release Morphine 2 x 10mg, then 2 x 30mg, then 2 x 60mg, and Fentanyl was to be next ! Horrific as I got more and more used to Morphine. If you are going down this route you need to get your GP on side to at least consider an op. It got so bad that I had to even buy a wheel-chair to wheel myself around the house, as being less painful than walking around. And stay away from Chiropracters until your medics have ruled out an op. as inappropriate.
