Fibro pain

What do you do or take for pain? Is it daily?

I was just diagnosed with Celiac disease and told to stay away from neurotin (gabapentin) because it can cause digestive issues.

Hi Kittenmam

I have various health conditions so I’m taking the max dose of Paracetamol, Morphine in the morning (the dose varies as pain demands), Diazepam 5mg usually early afternoon when if my back goes into spasms & Amitriptyline at night (varies from 50mg to 100mg depending on pain). I also inject Methotrexate 17.5 on Mondays) & have intra muscular Depo-Medrone of 120ml every 3 months.

I recently tried to back on Gabapentin for nerve pain but had a bad reaction after taking it for years before. I’ve only just started back Methotrexate which I took in tablet form years ago.

I’ve just realised how awful that all sounds but it’s all a bit hit or miss & depends what suits you. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could just take one pill &, hey presto, it worked! I’ve just found out the hard way, DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PARACETAMOL! You (as I did) might think it does nothing until you stop taking it. I was in agony for 3 days before I gave in & started taking it again.

I hope you find the meds that work for you. We’re all different. Nic xx 🙂

Hi, unfortunately I can't advise on pain treatment because we are all different. The stomach issues I do understand, I have multiple food intolerances and allergies, again each persons problem is different. Don't forget to check medication for lactose, a lot of tablets have lactose as a base and, as I found, can really mess with your stomach. Good luck with the pain side x

Hi Kitten,

I would try the GABA, give your coeliac condition and therefore potential IBS comorbidity I would suggest pregabalin as you need a lower dose.

I like many FM sufferers have to take a proton pump treatment like Lanzoprazole or Omeprazole as I take a huge amount of medication.

I combine this with an anti-emetic, rotating through cyclizine, metoclopramide and prochlorperazine. I find that latter really helps as it also combats vertigo and works well for patients with migraines.

Try different things, I know it seems counterintuitive to be taking extra meds just to be able to take the drug we need. But for me it’s worth it, lol I just got an image of FM patients swishing their hair back and all saying ouch.

Keep fighting,

Rai xxx
