I see a few people on here with fibromyalgia having hydrotherapy, my GP has been told there is none here where I live. Any fellow sufferers in Manchester area do you know where hydrotherapy available and how did you get it?

I had this problem years ago? The only way I solved it was to join the Total Fitness gym as they have a hydro pool with jets which were wonderful for my pain. They are dotted around our area. Those were the days when I could swim a bit. Is there a local Fibro/ m.e support group near you? They may know. Our Bolton/ Bury one was involved in a hydro trial a few years ago. I couldnt take part as I couldnt get there and I couldnt do an hrs exercise in a warm pool. 2 years ago we fitted a spa bath at home, we couldnt afford a hot tub. Its marvelous for my pain but obv you cant excercise in the bath!

Thank you, I've tried a day pass at the local gym and they have a whirlpool bath which is good but it gets quite crowded, and I found the sauna heat helpful too.

I’m currently having hydrotherapy at Bolton One (Jason Kenny Centre). Not sure where you are in Manchester - it’s not far from train/bus station and has disabled parking.

How did this treatment get arranged? Through your GP or private? I'm not far from bolton this would be ideal.

Thank you

Hi Greendeco - I'm not in your area but mine was arranged through a hospital rheumatology department. I got a referral from my GP to rheumy, then from the rheumy to a physio at the hospital, who assessed me for hydrotherapy. Hydro took place within the physio department of the hospital. I would imagine most hospitals have a hydro pool. I found it quite helpful, but it was only an 8 week course and there is no pool near me I can continue to use as they're all too cold.

I dont think its available where I live either but I can recommend swimming ir doing light exercise in water. I swim very slowly and not very well but it helps better than any pain killer i have tried.
