Hi everyone, I am new here and I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 years ago. Since then I have tried to manage the pain with exercise, healthy diet and supplements but most recently I have experienced increased pain, mostly in my lower back and legs, to the point that it is unbearable. The dr has prescribed Amitriptyline 10 mg and I am very worried that I will put weight on. Is anyone on this medication at that low dose and has experienced weight gain?
Thank you for responding

Hello & welcome, I used to take Amitriptyline and weight gain was not an issue, some medications do increase weight but this is not a side effect of this medication. Good luck and soft hugs
Hi I have been on 25mgs amitriptyline for six years now no problems on weight gain but just be careful when you first start taking them I was so tired I could hardly walk until your body get used to it.
I've been on them for a short while, about 2mths. As others have already said, no weight gain but you might want to read the leaflet that comes with it for some other side effects. Mine are minor i.e. dry mouth and peeing differently. Have decided to stick with it for now as I am getting to sleep through and my pains have lessened.
Hello - I was on Amitriptyline for 15 years and it didn't make me put on any weight. It eased my neck and shoulder pain and had the added bonus of helping me get to sleep. I only took 10mg and didn't like taking a higher dose because of the dry mouth. I've now switched to Noritryptyline but it works in the same way. Jo x
Have taken both Amitrip and Nortrip and did not put on weight with either. Also, took mine at night, as they were both supportive meds to help with depression, took my main depression meds in mornings.
Hi, I was on amitriptyline for about 9 years but kept to a quarter of a 10mg tablet - only upping it to 5mg if I had a flare up. Try and keep to this if you can as a slippery road to more and more meds which isn't good for anybody personally. Took mine about 6pm and this gave me a reasonable sleep. Didn't get a dry mouth on a this small dose but eventually side effects were too much ie. Fast heart rate and pains in my eyes. I'm not on any meds now apart from paracetamol at night - gluten/dairy free diet and meditation. Still in pain so trying homeopathy - early days. Good luck - remember meds help some fibromite but not all of us. Take care.
