Hi, I'm on amitriptyline and I cant say that I have put weight on. My life is a bit slower now, ie. I dont play golf anymore, as my name suggests I used to play golf. Maybe I have put a bit of weight on but dont know if that is due the meds.

IVe Put on 6 pound recently dunno if it’s the tablets or not

I’m not on it anymore but I did put on a lot of weight when I was on it and couldn’t seem to lose it. When I stopped taking it I started to lose the weight I had gained. I think for me it might have increased my hunger so I was eating a lot more than usual.

Amytripyline seems to make me crave sweet foods and keeps me in a fug of ‘don’t care, need it’ rather than how I usually am which is quite careful. I’ve put on 2 stone in the past three years since I have been using it regularly

Oh dear, yes, that’s how I feel! Constantly hungry and crave sweet things, which I usually don’t go for.

I have joined slimming world and hope with some structure , I at least, might be able to keep it off xx

Hi Twinks , I've had problems with weight since i had my children. Recently because of a diverticulitis flare i tried a new diet for it. It has helped a lot so I'm staying on it. One nice side effect is that I'm losing weight slowly , but I am. Its a radical change but so worth it.

If you look on youtube for Dr. Gundry you will find it. You can get his books on Amazon , but I've managed to learn from his articles and Dave and Jans videos . They have had wonderful health improvements on it. Basically you need to give up all grains , there are other flours from nuts and seeds etc you use to make baked goods . ( you can buy sorghum crackers ). Beans cant be eaten as normal , and nightshade vegetables are out , including potatoes , i eat sweet potatoes instead. I use sweeteners mostly , very little sugar ( coconut sugar ) .

My craving for sweet things is a fraction of what it used to be . Thats why i wonder if it might help you. Take a look at it and see what you think . I also now have kefir , i make it , its so easy. Its an important part of balancing the good bacteria with the bad. Sugar feeds the bad bacteria. Remember the Yakult adverts .

God bless you Twinks , I hope this may be of help to you , and others who are putting weight on.

I'm so glad . It means taking some trouble , but I have certainly found it worth it , and you will see many others have too. If you do decide to do it , i can be here to advise , like where to buy the stuff you need etc.

God bless K.

Twinks, Amitriptyline was really the only med that gave me any genuine relief to me at all, but only of the neuopahic type pains,,, the shooting ones. It had no effect on the burning muscular pains.

There is much evidance to suggest that larger doses often do not have any more effect on pain than lower doses.

It did help me sleep a bit better but I didn't feel any better in the morning.

It didn't make me put on any weight.
